Presenting examples/Instances of the New Lesson Activity 1: Jumbled Letters Activity 1: Sharing Thoughts Activity 1: Thumbs Up or Down? Allow the learners to arrange the jumbled letters: Let the learners share their thoughts about the pictures presented. The teacher will read statements about precautionary measures in handling farm machineries. The learners will either thumbs up if they agree or thumbs down if they disagree. 1. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills The teacher will discuss and present examples of the different storage and handling equipment, types of industrial trucks and bulk material handling equipment. Activity 2: Guess What? Directions: Learners will guess the names of the following storing equipment. They can look for their answers in the box. Pallet truck Mezzanine Shelves, bins & drawers Ask the learners if they have experienced these injuries and how it was cured. The teacher will present the possible hazards in the workplace from falling objects, improperly stacked materials, and various types of equipment. Precautions in operating a tractor will be the example presented by the teacher. The class will be divided into 5 groups. Each group will have an assigned tillage equipment. They are provided with pictures and definitions for them to describe and discuss. Group 1: Moldboard Plow Group 2: Disk Plow Group 3: Disk Harrows & Offset Disk Group 4: Filed Cultivators Group 5: Packers Motivational Question: - Why is there a need for the farmers to use caution when operating agricultural machinery? Is it necessary for an operator to be physically and mentally fit when operating a tractor? Why do you say so? Dangers of Agricultural Machinery will be presented by the teacher. A short video clip about these will be played as well for additional information. Reminder: A copy of all Operating Manuals and other relevant safety materials should be kept on file for quick reference. - Order pickers Racks Hand truck/ trolley Platform truck Stacking frames Side loaders Ask learners for their own ideas about the precautions when moving materials manually and how to avoid strain and injury. Disk Harrow and Offset Disk Packers Hazardous Activities during the maintenance of agricultural machinery will also be presented to the learners. Soliciting ideas from them will also be done. After the sharing of insights, the teacher will add information as to the functions of the different tillage equipment as well as the precautionary measures to be taken in handling the following equipment. F. Developing Mastery (Leads to formative Assessment) Activity 3: Enumeration Fill in the necessary information needed in the box. Enumerate three (3) each of the transporting machine/equipment, storing machine/equipment, and handling machine/equipment. Activity 2: List down at least 5 (five) different common hazards that you can encounter in your home. Activity 2: Identify the tillage equipment being described in each item. Activity 1: True or False 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 1. It cuts soil, lifts it, and turns it at least partly upside down by means of a curved plate. (Moldboard plow) Identify the statement if it is true or false. Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is wrong. 2. It is used to open the new fields and to process the stony areas. (Disk plow) 1. If you need to remove the guard to lubricate the machine, lubricate while the A 10-item True or False type of test will be conducted. - Storing equipment Transporting equipment Handling equipment 3. Used in open field working for the superficial ploughing, for the shattering of clods, preparation of soil for sowing, burial of organic substances & remains (Disk Harrow & Offset Disk) 4. Pre-plant weed control as well as incorporating residues and preparing a seed bed. (Field Cultivator) 5. Used in dry seasons to compress the soil after plowing. (Packers) machine is in motion. 2. Beware of flying particles when sharpening machinery. Use protective equipment such as face shield. 3. A person who does not know how to operate a tractor safely in potentially hazardous situations can be injured or killed by exercising poor judgment. 4. Minor and serious injuries can occur when workers are not paying close attention, taking shortcuts, ignoring warnings or failing to follow safety rules. 5. You should make your employees aware of potential injuries that can occur when manually moving materials. 6. We can overload a truck because it is made with durable materials. 7. Hand truck is one of the most basic pieces of material handling equipment, feature a small platform to set the edge of a heavy object on, and a long handle to use for leverage. 8. We can always use a damage tool in repairing the machineries. 9. Convenience outlets and power tools used should not be checked before and after its use. 10. A copy of all Operating Manuals and other relevant safety materials should be kept on file for quick reference. G. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living Activity 4: Observe farmers on how they utilize the farm tool/equipment/machineries and write your observation in a ½ crosswise. After writing your observation, share it to the members of the family and let them sign in your answer sheet. (Follow the format below) Answer: ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ______________________ ________________ Name of family member Activity 3: Describe the following pictures. Explain how hazards can be avoided. 1. Activity 3: Drawing or Sketching Activity 2: Role Playing Draw at least one equipment or machinery that you think that has a great help in the farm operation and write the name of your equipment or machinery. State your reason why you selected that equipment or machinery below your drawing. Draw your output in a short bond paper. The class will be divided into 4 groups. They are free to choose what danger or hazardous activities they are about to act. Explain the importance of wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment in the workplace Why is there a need for us to know the precautionary measures in handling the tillage equipment? Conduct a 10-item quiz. Conduct a 15-item quiz. Allow learners to share their insights about the significance of having knowledge about the operator’s manual. Conduct a 10-item quiz. 2. - Each group will be given 10 minutes for the preparations and 5 minutes for the performance. Rubrics are provided as well. Signature 3. H. Making Generalizations I. Evaluation J. Additional Activities for Application or Remediation If you own a certain tools, equipment, or machineries at home, what will you do to prolong its life and effectiveness? Conduct a 15-item quiz. - - K. Assignment/Agreement Study the next lesson about the potential hazards for workers. Ask learners to define the following: 1. Moldboard plows 2. Disk plows 3. Disk harrows and offset disks 4. Field cultivators 5. Packers Study the next lesson about the dangers of agricultural machinery. Study for the long quiz next meeting. - V. REMARKS VI. REFLECTION: a.
