Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Karandeep Singh, an Indian citizen with Passport No. P9099114 who aspires to thrive in
the field of Project Management. I have been granted admission to one year Ontario Graduate
Certificate in Project Management commencing on 2 May 2022 at Humber College and I am
drafting this statement to show my inclination towards this program.
I have a small tightly knit family who have been my constant source of strength. My father,
Raminder Singh Bindra, runs a successful travel business since 1997. He is a quick leaner who
has adapted to the new-age technology and runs his business online as well. My mother is a
teacher who has been providing tuition classes to middle school students for over 10 years
now. I have an elder sister, Navleen, who graduated in Computer Science Engineering and is
working with Nutanix as a Sr. Engineer. My sister has guided me through the various phases
in my life, be it academic, professional or personal. She is married to Avneet, brother-in-law,
who is a Product Manager with about 7 years of Experience.
I've been a sports enthusiast and a stage performer since my early childhood years. I enjoy
playing cricket and badminton and have participated in various tournaments which has
contributed to my personal development and growth.
I have completed my senior secondary with 9 CGPA and higher secondary with 71% from
MDAV Public school, Ambala. Further, I completed my BCA with 7.6 CGPA and MCA with 8.1
CGPA in 2021 from Chitkara University, Punjab. During BCA one of the key projects that I
worked on was an Online Service Provider Website. Inspired from Urban Company, which is
present in big towns, I with my team made a website for the TriCity. We created this for a
company called Sat Shri Tech, and the users could use this to reserve different service
providers online. Database management was done using MySql and the code is in CSS, HTML
and PHP. During the MCA days, I worked on making a CRM website using which different
employees and customers can sign in to their respective accounts. It will help users manage
their leads, get to know source of every specific lead, revenue generated from respective
leads, current status of the lead and details of every specific lead such as address, contact
details, date of birth etc. It’s coded in CSS, HTML and PHP and MySql is used for Database
Management. As part of these team projects, I was working in Database creation and entire
life cycle management for each of the projects.
Since May 2021 I’ve been working as a Research and Data Analyst in Beyond Codes Inc, a B2B
lead Generation Company. My role here requires me to assess multiple sources of data to
generate quality leads for our clients. Due to my inclination and zeal towards management, I
went above and beyond my role and successfully carried out projects that helps understand
client needs better and made the data procurement and delivery lifecycle efficient. Doing
these projects, I identified my interest towards different aspects of Project Management and
hence thought that a formal education in this field would help me learn and grow in this
profession.
There are scores of reasons behind choosing this course. In opportunities that I got during my
academic and professional years to work on complex projects, I really enjoyed working on
and delivering them successfully. I’m intrigued how big organisations like Microsoft and
Amazon deliver projects that span across multiple teams located at different geographies with
such a huge scale and impact. The duration of this program is one year, and I will learn the
skills needed to move a project through conceptualization, planning, execution, initiation,
control and closing. The curriculum is designed in collaboration with industry and closely
aligned to the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowledge
(PMBOK) and international best practices. This program covers all the essential units such as
Project Scope and Quality Management, Project Communications, Project Cost Management,
Project Risk Management, Project Modelling and Simulation etc. Looking at this I believe what
I have is a sneak-peek into this the complex domain of Project Management in the real
corporate world. Hence, when I think of Project Management as a professional career, a
guided learning program will be instrumental for me to acquire the skills required to be a
successful leader in this field.
Albeit India has also some of the best Colleges and Universities, the research & development
programs are not as robust as the ones in Canada. To have a global approach, one needs to
have the facility & curriculum which meets the international standards; hence I have chosen
to get myself educated outside India. Canada is one country that has the most assorted
environment to offer. The education system of Canada is well advanced and encourages the
use of the latest technology while learning. The universities are highly ranked in the world
and offer a qualification that are valued and respected globally. Moreover, the curriculum is
structured to ensure a perfect blend of practical exposure and theoretical learning. The
multicultural environment present there is perfect in providing experience at a wider level
where one could learn from people from different backgrounds, cultures and countries.
Offering safety, peace, order, and high standard education that are globally recognized, I am
sure that I made the right decision.
Humber is a top college in Canada that offers a comprehensive Project Management
curriculum with a promise to enhance skills required to excel in this sphere. The college
combines world-class academics with professional practice, enabling the students to acquire
relevant, real-world skills. Education at Humber is a dynamic, transformative experience,
which provides countless opportunities to grow as a professional and prepare me for a
dynamic and transformative future. The college also has students with diverse nationalities,
professional experience and cultural backgrounds which provide a very unique peer learning
opportunity. The College has carved a niche in the society, with a huge alumni base making
history with each passing day.
My long-term career goal is to be a successful corporate professional contributing to the
organisation I would be associated with and the society. And the next few years I would work
towards building a path to my goal. In the last few years, I’ve identified myself as a people’s
person. I enjoy working on tough problems be it a corporate or an academic assignment or
an extra-curricular activity. I’ve seen myself emerge stronger with every challenge as I believe
in constant learning and evolving. Through my research, I’ve identified project management
as one such field that would enable me to kick start my trajectory towards my goal. It would
empower me with the skills and the knowledge required work on real problems. I will take
this opportunity to further my abilities and knowledge through this programme and return to
India to build my career with my newly acquired knowledge and skills in the sphere.
As an adult I feel responsible to fund my future education hence, I’ve taken an education
loan which I’ll be repaying after completing my education. I have been sanctioned a loan of
INR 15.94 Lakh from PNB Bank, using which the course fee of 17188 CAD and living expense
of $10,200 in Scotia bank GIC have been paid in advance. Having said that, I have robust
family finances and assets. My father earns about INR.5 Lakh per year, my mother earns
about INR 4.5 lakh and my sister is earning INR 21 Lakh per annum, all of them together
running our household and funding my education. I have also started contributing to the
family income with my package of INR.2.52 Lakh. We have our own house of 1800 sq. ft in
Ambala and a office building in one of the popular commercial areas in the town. Adding to
this, we have 6 commercial vehicles used in our family travel business, a personal car and
motorbike. My fixed assets, including my immovable properties are worth about 22 million
INR (370,443 CAD).
The education programme offered by the college will provide me with tools, knowledge and
skill-set which will give me an opportunity to work in a progressive and innovative company.
This course will help me in shaping my career and be a successful manager. It will be a privilege
to be a student of this college.
Thanks, and regards,
Karandeep Singh Bindra
