&
Subsea
What is Diamond Wire
 High tensile wire joined with a mechanical
crimp or braided together to form a loop.
 1. Steel carrier rings are fitted over the
tension wire and spaced out with a
compression spring.
 2. On the outside of the carrier rings are
diamonds enclosed in an electroplated
area to retain them.
(2) Different Types of
DW Loops
1. Endless loop
• Does not have a crimp.
• Wire is braided back together by
manufacturer.
• No weak point wire is stronger
• Pre maid length
2.
•
•
•
Crimped Loop
Has a crimped connection
Weak point is typically the crimp
Bulk wire can be crimped into any size
loop.
How Does A DW Saw
Work?
Hydraulic Power Providing:
1. Wire Rotation
• 982 RPM
• Approx. 60-80 ft./sec
2. Wire Tension
• Applied Hyd. Pressure allowing the wire
to be pushed into a cut or be pulled
through a cut.
What can a Diamond Wire Saw Cut?
 Concentric Pipe
 Eccentric Pipe
 I- Beams
 H-Beams
 Cement
 Granite
What Applications Do DWS Have
In the Oil and Gas Industry?
 Conductor Removal
 Platform Removal
 Pipeline Removal
Conductor Removal
(Slot Recovery)

Conductor is plugged Below Mud Line

Conductor is cut BML

Conductor Pipe is pulled in 40ft sections.

Put on a vessel or material barge for
scrap.
Platform Removal
 Top Deck is Removed
 Production Piping may need to be cut
 Jacket may be split by cutting Horizontal
Diagonals and Vertical Diagonals
 *Legs / Piles are cut BML*
