Graduation Requirements Residency Requirement Students must complete all the required courses for the academic programs with a minimum GPA of 2. Period of Study ❂❂ College of Engineering and Technology: 180 credit hours to be completed in a period of minimum 4.5 years and maximum 10 years. ❂❂ All other Colleges: 144 credit hours to be completed in a period of minimum 3.5 years and maximum 8 years. All students must complete at least 50% of courses at AASTMT to be awarded a degree from AASTMT. The other 50% must be completed in an accredited institution, and all the transferred courses must be approved by the Academic Department and comply with AASTMT course transfer policy. Fall and Spring Semesters ❂❂ Registration starts 1-2 weeks before the beginning of classes and continues during Summer Semester Summary of Registration of Courses the first two weeks of classes. ❂❂ Average students with GPA >=2.2 and have completed more than 34 credit hours may register directly via the student portal. ❂❂ Students placed on probation are required to register their courses under the supervision of their academic advisors. ❂❂ Registration starts 1 week before the beginning of classes and continues during the first week of classes. Fall and Spring Semesters ❂❂ Average load is 18 credits hours and the minimum load is 9 credits hours (19 Academic Load credit hours for Architectural Engineering and the College of Maritime Transport and Technology). Students with a GPA 3 or above may register up to 21 credits hours (22 credit hours for Architectural Engineering and the College of Maritime Transport and Technology). ❂❂ Load for students placed on probation because their GPA is <2 is 12 credit hours to be registered under the complete supervision of the Academic Advisor. ❂❂ Load for students in their final year is up to 21 credit hours, if their GPA is above 2. Summer Semester ❂❂ Students may register up to 2 courses. Academic Rules & Regulations www.aast.edu Students are required to read the full version of the Academic Rules and Regulations posted on AASTMT website but this is a brief summary of the main topics to give you a general idea about the content. The full version includes other mandatory topics and details not included here. Planned Leave of Absence Students of average academic standing may apply to take a planned leave of absence of maximum 4 semesters. Students must follow the procedure included in the detailed rules and regulations. Honors For students who enrolled starting Fall 2016, they must maintain a GPA of 3.3 in every semester without any ‘F’ grade to graduate with honors. For students who enrolled up till the second semester 2015/2016. they must maintain an overall GPA of 2.8 and all their grades must be ‘C’ or above to graduate with honors Course Repeat Policy Students are required to repeat any course/courses they fail and will be awarded a maximum grade of B+. For students who enrolled starting Fall 2016, regular students are allowed to repeat a maximum of 5 courses to improve their GPA while students placed on probation are allowed to repeat as many courses as they need to improve their GPA under the complete supervision of their academic advisor. Attendance Policy Students must attend 85% of classes and will be automatically forced to withdraw from the course if their absence exceeds 15%. Change of Major A student may submit a request to change his/her major and the request will be evaluated by the Department Head based on the GPA as long as the student fulfills the admission requirements of the new major. Students who for any reason fail to fulfill the academic standards defined by AASTMT will be automatically placed on probation. A student is placed on probation if he/she fails to: Probation and Dismissaly ❂❂ Maintain a GPA of 2 in any semester. ❂❂ Complete 50% of the required number of achieved hours. Students who remain on probation for 3 consecutive semesters are required to change their major. Students who remain on probation for another 3 consecutive semesters in the new major will be dismissed from AASTMT. Students who exceed the maximum number of years of study will be dismissed. Final Exam Policy Grading System Appeal Students who fail to achieve 30% in the final exam will be automatically awarded F grade regardless of the total marks they have accumulated during the semester. Please refer to the detailed tables below. Students are awarded letter grades according to the total marks they accumulate during the semester. Moreover, students are required to fulfill the final exam policy. The total grade is divided as follows: 30% for the midterm assessment(s), 20% for the 12th week assessment, 10% for participation/assignments/quizzes/attendance and 40% for the final assessment/exam. Students may submit an appeal to have their final examination / assessment revised, which constitutes 40% of the total marks. The student must submit the appeal during the 30 days following the end of the semester.
