Cold and Dark Set-up:
In this flight, we are flying from Bradley International Airport (KBDL) to
Nantucket International Airport (KACK). For this tutorial you will need the pmdg
737-800. First what you want to when you get into the 737-800 is press SHIFT + 3
to display the FMC.
Click the LSK1 to display FMC Options.
Click the LSK6 to display the INDEX
Click the RSK5 for the “CONFIG”
Then Click LSK1 for Cold and Dark.

Then click “EXEC” And the aircraft should be “Dark and Cold.”

Dark and Cold Start-up:
MAKE SURE THE PARKING BREAK IS SET!
First where going to want to turn on the Battery, Standby power, and switch the Emergency
lights to armed. Do so by left clicking on black switch .
Now we have to get Ground Power, press SHIFT + 3 to display the FMC, and then press FS
Actions, then press Ground Connections. Press LSK2, 3, 4, 5 to connect ground power and other
thing’s for the Boeing. Then go back to the Overhead and left click Ground Power.
Now we have to set the fuel for the trip. So going to this website: http://fuelplanner.com. Once
you’re on the website you type in KBDL under “Departure Airport” and KACK under “Arrival
Airport” and Equipment with a Boeing 737-800 ifly/pmdg. Under options and “Output” put in
“Standard Fuel Plan,” for “Rules” put in “F.A.R Domestic,” and for “Units” put it in “Pounds.”
Above press Calculate and it will tell you your fuel. The following was shown for my fuel. (I am
in a Boeing 737-800.)

Now with knowing that, we have to put it into the FMC, so since we are still at the “Ground
Connections” page, we have to click the LSK6 to return to FS Actions. Then press LSK1 to go to
the fuel page. Now by pressing and holding TAB you can put in letters and numbers with your
keyboard instead of the scratch pad. The bottom will light up green indicating you can type. So I
am going to put in 10308 and then let go of the TAB button. Then press the LSK1 key to load the
fuel.
We also want to write down our gross weight. So in this case, it is 135.4. Depending on the
route you take when flying to other places, you gross weight will be different.
Now the aircraft is powered and has the correct fuel.

FMC:
The FMC has a lot of information to put into it, but is very easy once you know how to program
it. Let’s start out by telling the FMC where we are. Then we’ll put in our gross weight, reserves
and more. This section will not have text unless needed.

You keeping up? Above you had to put in your gross weight (135.4), reserves (5),
and Cost index (100). Then you’re cruse ALT & the notches of flaps to use. As well
as put in V1, VR, V2. Now you have to do that again since you selected the BDL9
dep. Go to N1 LIMIT, then takeoff and press LSK1, 2, and 3 again to activate it.

Getting the hang of it now? Well you should be. There are only 3 more steps and
you will be done with programming the FMC. Later on we will have to come back
to it for other thing’s to turn off, but for right now it’s all good.

You want to press ACTIVATE
Now press EXEC
Now you’re all done with the FMC (For now). Let’s set-up the aircraft!

Aircraft Set-up:
Since we are flying the Bradley 9 departure, we’ll be climbing to 4,000. Our cruse
altitude is Flight Level 190. Put your mouse over the knob under Altitude and
scroll down from 10,000 to 4,000. (You can also scroll up to increase your altitude)
Now let’s change our speed from 100 to 250 knots. Scroll up to increase it.

Now lets change the Heading to 238 by scrolling up (or down, your choice)
Now to set the course to 117.

Let’s set the Nav and Radio stack. It’s more of just one nav strip and one radio, so
our first waypoint is Providence (PVD) 115.60. We’ll also be contacting Bradley
Ground, so switch it to 121.90 (If you’re in free flight and don’t want to contact
the sim’s controller, then don’t worry about the radio stack). It also shows you the
above, below.

One more thing before we push and start-up the aircraft, we have to go to the
overhead panel and change two things. These things are the 1: You have to tell
the aircraft what altitude you’re cruising at. If you change it to a higher level due
to other reasons, then you have to change this too. Bottom right under AUTO you
should see 10000, change that to 19000. 2: Under that, change that to the
airport’s (KACK) airport elevation or “Land ALT” which for ACK is 47, so 50.

Now you’re done with setting up the aircraft

Before Starting Engines:
Before starting the engines, you must “Align” the main panel. Do so switching the knobs to
align; it will take 5-10min, once it stops flashing right click it and switch it to “NAV” as shown
below:
If it doesn’t align, go to your FMC. Find POS INIT. Press LSK2 then LSK4 as shown below:

Starting the Engines:
The whole process of starting the engines is not that hard; first let’s turn on the Recirc fans. So
left click on both of them to auto. Then turn on the Left and Right Forward Fuel pump. Make
sure the engine bleed switches are auto as well. Now let’s start the APU
Now let’s set the APU Bleed to on and Isolation valve is set to auto
You'll notice the duct pressure gauge rise as the APU forces air into the starter system. Now
make sure the Engine hydraulic pumps are on, and make sure the Electric hydraulic pumps are

off. Turn on the Yaw Damper as well. It might go back to off, don’t worry about that.
Now we have to disconnect the ground power, first we have to switch from ground power to
APU power, do so by making sure GEN 1 and 2 are on. Then left click APU GEN 1 and two shown
below:
Once you have done that, let’s disconnect the ground power outside of the aircraft by going
into the FMC, going to the main menu, FS ACTIONS, and GROUND connections as shown below.

One more thing, we have set the PDF display to show both of the engine system’s. Do so by
pressing ENG on the main panel as shown below:

Now to start the Engines, Let’s turn on the Left and Right Fuel Pumps, then Bottom center you’ll
see two engine switches, where going to go from right to left starting the engines, so set ING to
Right, then left click the knob to the right to GND. As soon as you do that, look down at the
ECAIS, wait for N2 to be around 23-25% and then left click on the engine lever from cutoff to
idle. You should hear Engine 2’s sound. Then once Engine 2 is on, switch the right knob to CONT
for continuous and repeat the above for engine 1. The above is shown below:

As said above, do the same for engine 1 and your engines will be fully running.

Taxi:
Before you taxi, you must put your flaps down to notch 5. Turn the taxi lights on, and beacon
on. For night flights, turn on the taxi, logo, and “Position Strobe & Steady.” Check over your
route and make sure everything is set. Also make sure your squawk is set and your TCAS is
active. To do so go to press SHIFT + 4. Look at your squawk and switch it from Standby, to
TA/RA. Look below:
Before Departure:
Once you are at or almost at the active runway, do a final check of the aircraft, make sure the
flaps are down, have the appropriate amount of trim. If this is a day flight then turn on
“Position Strobe & Steady.”
After Departure:
Get your landing gear-up, flaps up, auto pilot on and auto-throttle on. Congratulations, you
have set-up and departed the PMDG 737-800 / 900. For more information on further
