Identify different types of light vehicles 2. You are required the light vehicle warm-up according to manufacturer’s manual. Introduction: When the engine is cold, the combustion is uneven and poor; the carb chokes off some of the air to compensate and runs richer, but less efficiently. As things heat up, everything starts to improve, and once the car is warm enough, the fuel can properly vaporize, and the car starts to idle and run smoothly. This information sheet deals with the methods used in warming up light vehicles. 1. Types of Light Vehicle: a. Private Car Img. 2.1-3a Private Car. Steps for Properly Warming Up Light Vehicle The trick to properly warming up light vehicle is to warm up its engine only as long as it takes to make the car comfortable and safe to drive. Here’s what you should do. Step 1. Make sure your vehicle is an appropriate area for checking. It should be out in the open air not in a garage. Date Developed: January 2023 CBLM on DRIVING NC II Developed by: Drive Light Vehicle Lucillie L. Lumingkit Document No. Issued by: ASSAT AGUSAN Revision # 0 Page 30 of 36 Step 2. Switch on power of the vehicle. Step 3. Check safety harness/devise and tools. Step 4. Engage vehicle hand brake or put wheel chokes. Step 5. Check the position of side and back mirrors Step 6. Check the vehicle shifting lever in neutral position Step 7. Let the engine run for maximum and back to normal then you can drive the vehicle. While the engine is running, observe the engine temperature gauge (Img. 2.1-3e) and oil indicator light (Img. 2.1-3f). The engine temperature gauge pointer should not be pointing more than half of the gauge while the engine is running otherwise your engine is overheating. Check also if the oil indicator light in the dashboard is not lighted up once the engine is already running otherwise you could have a low oil pressure or low oil level in your engine. Courtesy of captoyota.com, https://bit.ly/3ebK0Im Step 4. Start slowly and take it easy for the first 5-15 minutes. A long period of idling your car can be bad for your engine. What will help is remembering to start slowly and take it easy on the gas pedal for about 5-15 minutes when driving. Otherwise, you could stress out your engine before it’s had time to reach its normal performance levels.
