HOW WELL-PREPARED IS SOCIETY IN TERMS OF NORMALITY AND ACCEPTANCE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN THE PHILIPPINES Members: Christian Jay Montecillo Erika Gwyneth Doydoy Ashley Erica Cajes Tsuyoshi Higuchi Brigette Devero Misaki Quindao 11-HISHI PHILLIPINE NIKKEI JIN KAI SCHOOL OF CALINAN, INC 30/12/22 Guia Jane Sumastre Solana, lpt Introduction Society is at the peak of modern age, it all countries aspect, even those areas with financial problems are aware of things that are modernly implemented, that being said, Dilemmas regarding People with Disabilities had changed in the course of time, as countries start to improvise, this certain aspect or predicament of society is slowly being treated as something normal, people have started to develop a sense of acceptance and consideration leading to the implementation of PWD friendly establishments, precautions, and basically standard citizen privileges yet is improvised to a way in which PWDs can also participate, by doing so, it would slightly convenient their way of living on behalf of their disability. Background of the Study By means of other countries already having the resources and acceptance of the existence of People with Disabilities, Philippines is yet adapting and Filipinos have yet to be educated to its concept. As time runs its course, the rise of technological implication had influence the standard living of the Filipinos as positively affecting the structure of society’s day to day lives, with the help of modernization, establishments and other innovative machines are being implemented for the public to use, with these convenient inventions designed to shape society, had took over the people’s main source of acquiring food, entertainment, transportation, and even travelling, with the Philippine’s current population and its access to high-technological privileges it is an opportunity for us the researchers to asses on whether Philippine services specifically establishments and transportations within our surroundings are able to cater not only the futuristic concept through machines and the convenience of standard citizen but as well the People with Disabilities. Purpose of Study Our study aims to examine the capacity whether is society fully prepared and well adapted to the necessities of People with Disabilities in regards of public services and establishments within our local surroundings. Additionally, Mental Illnesses and other disabilities are still concepts, the Filipinos need to understand especially the majority of elderlies. That is why, within this study we will thoroughly do our utmost capabilities to eradicate misconceptions by using our power as members of the youth to advocate for better treatment of People with Disabilities by proposing possible solutions that would definitely be useful for future purposes, for the true purpose of conducting this study is to identify whether the Philippines is already at the stage where Filipinos are open minded enough to accept PWDs and mandatorily establish or improvise the standard social structure to a PWD friendly environment. Objectives of the Study We aim to change the perception of society to PWDs, by primarily examining how well-prepared society is in terms of normality and acceptance of people with disabilities in the Philippines, by doing so, we will be able to asses the specific objectives that we wish to implement with in this study. Specifically, letting them freely access the privileges to transportation and machines that are regularly used by standard citizens in public without difficulties. and such, Determining whether local establishments and other public services in society are well-adjusted for utilization for People with Disability to use. Identify the barriers that is stopping the implementation of these innovations in society for the uses of People with Disabilities. Normalizing and acknowledging that people with Mental Illnesses are considered a part of the PWD category and have Filipinos understand its concept through the advocacy of Educational Programs regarding People with Disabilities. Implement specific employment opportunities for People with Disabilities, and those who have mild disabilities have the privilege to be employed disregarding one’s disability as long as it doesn’t interfere with the work’s process and schedule. Research Questions Question 1: Are Filipinos capable of providing the necessities of People with Disabilities in terms of establishments and other public services in the Philippines? Question 2: Does conducting this research give benefits to the research subject and the concepts that are involved within this study? Question 3: How does implementing Educational Programs regarding People with Disabilities effective after conducting this study? and in what positive terms does knowing the concept of Mental illnesses be beneficial to us members of society? Question 4: What specific job employments are possible for People with Disabilities? And how does implementing these opportunities be beneficial to both PWDs and society? Methodology By means of conducting this study, we will be performing different methods to assess possible ways in how we can obtain informations that we will be using, in order for these informations to be considered legitimate and credible. Thus, few of the method that we will be using to conduct our research will be listed as such, 10–15 minutes Interview with a Person who is qualified for the subject. Conduct a Questionnaire survey to 5-10 people who is certified diagnosed with PWD regarding their experiences with public transportations, establishments, and treatment with other people in society. and 4-8 local establishments regarding their preparedness on possible occurrences and issues regarding this specific study. Personally investigate Public Services that are used in day-to-day activities and identify whether they are suitable for PWD use. Review of Related Literature Research Design As for the Research Design of this study will be conducted in both Qualitative and Quantitative research method. The reason for why we specifically chose the mixed research method is that, our objective as the researchers of this study is to assess whether or not the Philippines is already capable of handling a global predicament that requires both finance and local solidarity, that is why with the use of the mixed research method we will be able to conduct a detailed research since we have the opportunity to actually witness and understand thoroughly the point of view of our subject respondents on how they percept the current situation within the said study as how well-prepared is society in terms of normality and acceptance of people with disabilities in the Philippines. Area of the Study The Researcher’s main study will be conducted at 3-4 major establishment spots in Davao City, few examples are (SuperMall Ecoland, Abreeza, NCCC, and etc.) We will also consider analyzing a few public use properties such as overpasses, public restrooms, and as well as the main areas of Calinan, whether the structures and establishments of these mentioned places are already considering the implementation for possible People with Disabilities uses.
