Sailors and ship captains take the sound of a
foghorn as a warning. The low, loud sound of a
foghorn may be heard repeatedly on days with
dense fog near the coast. In the event that
mariners are approaching a rocky coastline or
other obstacles that can't be seen due to fog,
the alarm will sound.
