“USE OF SOFT-CONVERTED METRIC BARS”

Following ACI approval of 318M-95 in a hard metric version, the 1996 ASTM
Standards for reinforcing bars were revised to be based on “soft-converted” metric
bar sizes and yield strengths, replacing the “hard-converted” metric bar sizes and
yield strengths in previous ASTM standards. Because bars will be produced and
sold under the 1996 ASTM standards, the 1996 ASTM soft metric bar sizes and
yield strengths have been used throughout this metric version of 318M-95. The
presently constituted ACI 318 Committee approved this change, which went
through the ACI Standardization Procedure for Code Cases.
This Code Case, referenced in the footnote on Page 32 of 318M-95/318RM-95,
was omitted from Page 8 of that ACI document.
