Research Plan Nawaf
Task 1: Writing one review research article on reliability & efficiency (3 months)
Literature Review of reliability & efficiency of Electrical Networks with neural networks and
Artificial intelligence. (Nawaf and Dr. Bilal Combined)
I will give complete guidance and full explaining for understanding the research.
We will write one review paper based on the literature review. Give future aspects of how to use
AI to measure reliability and efficiency in electrical Networks. (Nawaf and Dr. Bilal Combined)
Complete guidance, writing, proofreading, and publishing the review article in a journal.
Task 2: Writing one technical journal paper based on designing a model for
reliability/implementation of real data of any transmission network in a neural network ( 3
months)
I will do a complete simulation of AI and train the data in neural networks.
We will propose to increase the reliability and efficiency based on the proposed model/ real data
of the electrical network.
Using AI, extract the results based on multiple simulations of the novel model in MATLAB.
Will teach the simulations of neural networks in MATLAB.
We will write one technical journal paper based on achieved results that illustrate the enhancement
comparison among using different AI techniques/algorithm in reliability and efficiency in
Electrical Networks. (Nawaf and Dr. Bilal Combined)
Complete guidance, writing, proofreading, and publishing the technical article in a journal.
Note: Task 1 and Task 2 will be carried out in parallel due to a shortage of time. I will invest
in one more Ph.D. scholar with me to boost the research at a fast pace.
Task 3: More research and simulations on multiple parameters to enhance the efficiency and
reliability of electrical power networks based on the previous works. ( 2 months after Task
2)
In task three we will develop an AI model for the reliability and efficiency of an Electrical network.
The reliability of any Electrical network depends on the fault prediction of a given electrical power
system. Therefore, our target is to predicate the fault in our existing system so that it can work
efficiently. Conventionally, the Maximum likelihood criteria are used for fault prediction
moreover, many statistical models are used for fault prediction. In this thesis for fault prediction,
we will use the following AI models for fault prediction.
1) LSTM (Long short-term memory)
2) Bi-LSTM
3) Hybrid Model (1D CNN-LSTM)
To develop a reliable electrical model a dataset will be required for training the AI models
mentioned above.
In addition, for an intelligent Electrical network, a load prediction can also be done by using above
mentioned models if a dataset of at least the last 10 years is available. (What is other option if no
data available for existing system?)
Other possible option is to propose a novel model simulation that will be used to assess and
enhance the efficiency & reliability by optimal allocation of Distributed Generators (DG),
Capacitors and STATCOM in different bus systems (IEEE 14 Bus system, IEEE 33 Bus system
& IEEE 69 Bus system) using AI algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), fuzzy logic
algorithm, ANN, heuristic algorithm etc. (Note: there are many researchers doing same work, but
we need to add our valuable contribution in this filed)
Task 4: Writing the Ph.D. Thesis (3 months after Task 1 and Task 2) (Nawaf and Dr. Bilal)
The plan for writing the thesis (Dr. Bilal)
Drafting of Thesis under the guidance of Dr. Bilal (Nawaf and Dr. Bilal Combined)
Complete guidance, Proofreading and correction and adding the content of Ph.D. thesis and
making the whole thesis (Dr. Bilal)
Formatting the thesis (Nawaf and Bilal Combined)
Task 5: Presentation and final thesis defense
Guidance and proofreading of final Ph.D. defense and presentation. (Nawaf and Bilal Combined)
The total project cost will be USD 12000 and will be completed in 12 months. The payment will
be done on 30% advance and then monthly basis at the start of each month 1000 USD. (The
proposed cost is very high, we need to discuss it after reaching clear agreement in the scope of
work and time for completion)
The journal publication fee and any other fees will be borne by Nawaf or claimed by the university.
