Independent Project
Ideas
•
When looking for ideas to do for my Independant's project I couldn't really
decide because from the beginning of the course I've wanted to design my
own environments from different genres and artistic style.
•
In the beginning I thought about doing 5 environments however I felt that
with the quality of my work I could lower the number of environments I was
going to model as the assets themself can prove I don't need multiple assets
nor have one single environment not only to prove I can model but keep a
consistency across all models
•
However, after changing my mind several times the environments came
down from 5 to 3, those 3 environments being themed around 3 topics. Those
being Mad Max, Mysterious monolith, and WW2.
•
Once I had decided on the environments themselves, I needed to make a
model list for each of them. However, the lists themselves can be very
lengthy as they list everything and anything which would be needed with in
the environment.
Environment #1 – Mad Max,
Wasteland
•
A post-apocalyptic environment which has nothing but sand and decaying
structures, for as far as the eye can see Theres nothing but left over remains
of what use to be a society which is completely different to what the people
who live within these baron lands in this environment.
Model List:
•
Things which I would like to involve within this environment:
 Desert
 Wind Turbines
 Hot Air Balloons
 Fire Structures
•
Rusty platforms
Rusty Railing
Harbour
Boats
Old bridge
Torches

Environment #2 – Mystery
•
For my third environment I plan to make a mountain range which currently
has a snowstorm happening, the environment itself will be a cliff which has
ruins which glow in the heavy snowstorm. The ruins themself will be made
from stone and have a glowing artifact texture which when in the
environment will glow and give off particle effects. There will also be figures
surrounding the ruins which are floating and are connected by tethers
that connect to the ruins.
Model List:

Things which I would like to involve within this environment:
 Moutain Range
 Rocks
 Snow
 Snowstorm effects
 Ruins
 Particle effects from ruins
 Figures floating

Environment #3 – Hürtgen Forest
•
During WW2 there were many places in which films present or try to show
historical relevance to however, with my environment I will be using Battle
of Hürtgen Forest, as an example of the environment I will be modeling.
•
The forest itself is pull of pine trees also with a large amount of ground
foliage, however in my environment I will be modeling a bunker which
be surrounded with sandbags and several pieces of machinery. The bunker
itself will be used as a command center or a headquarters so it won't be on
the front line but will hold a lot of resources for transport.

Design changes
•
After making a list about all the models which would be need and the depth,
I wanted to go into each environment I felt like the time I had to complete
the assignment it would be difficult. So, I decided to cut back on the
environments and design a single environment which had a large depth of
modelling, Textures, and Design.
•
The environment in which I wanted to focus on was the Hürtgen Forest,
the ww2 environment. This is because I feel more confident in my modelling
ability which this type of modelling for this timeframe and this is my
preferred game theme.
