Good Morning. My name is Shelley Eckvahl.
I am the director of the vocational nursing program here at Chaffey College and I
would like to welcome you to our vocational nursing pinning ceremony.
We are excited and grateful to be able to present these pins to these students in
person and to have you all join us. This is the first opportunity we have been able
to do this in over two years. So welcome!
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge some important people who help
to make this day possible.
To the Chaffey College Governing Board to Dr. Henry Shannon,
superintendent/president of Chaffey College to Laura Hope, Vice President of
Instruction and to Dr. Jeffrey Laguna, Dean of the school of Health Sciences.
THANK YOU for your ongoing and steadfast support of this program and of these
students.
I would also like, on behalf of the vocational nursing faculty and students, to
sincerely thank Dr. Laguna and Shelli Martinez for making this in person ceremony
a reality.
Finally, I want to acknowledge these graduates sitting behind me this morning.
When they began their nursing program in August of 2020, we were in the
beginning of the COVID pandemic; however no one really envisioned the
profound effect it was going to have on, everything ---- including their nursing
education.
These graduates have overcome many obstacles, including a pause in their
educational process when we faced limited to no clinical site availability for our
students. Despite this, they carried on and now their hard work and dedication
has paid off. I am proud of their efforts and excited to see the contributions they
will make to this amazing profession throughout their nursing careers.
So, once again, welcome to everyone joining us and a very heartfelt
congratulations to these graduates. At this time it is my distinct pleasure to
introduce this year’s faculty speaker, Mr. Jordan Hung.
