Caribbean Maritime University Faculty of Engineering and Applied Technology Introduction to Management W-Protocol Capture Sheet _______________________________________________________________________ Student name: Student ID # Arnold Fairclough 20200306 Directions: Read the attached case study and try to have at least two responses for each “W” Protocol. Wow – What really stood out for you about the information shared in the case study? Wonder – What additional questions do you have about the information shared in the case study? 1. I am amazed at by the amount of carbon dioxide that is reduced yearly by using their solar power system. This is greatly because the ozone layer being reduced every year is a big problem which carbon dioxide contributes mostly to. 4. 2. What greatly impress me is the security and surveillance system that was put into place. When running such an high-tech facility security becomes the biggest problem. If it is not completely secure with all possible method, the loss of investment will be immense. I was wondering since this solar farm is expected to generate enough clean energy to power 75000 household, will this be slowly implemented in different parts of the country to become a country running mostly on solar power. I would recommend it because of the hot climate of Saudi Arabia and there are a lot of unused land. 5. If different countries around the world would implement this solar farm method, would we see a slow decrease in the depletion of the ozone layer. I think this is a good chance as there are a lot of countries with suitable climate for it and it would reduced the dependency of fossil fuel. 6. I wonder why the demo setup was used at such a large scale over the entire facility, as since it is a demo if one problem occurred it would have affected the entire facility. I believe implementing the system at a slower pace section by section would have been the most secured way as if a problem occur it would not affect the entire system. 3. I am impress by their fast thinking and good strategy methods that the team used overcome the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and still be able to perform instillation and commission the solar farm. The team use remote connectivity with different safety procedures in place to prevent the use of hacking really wow me. Caribbean Maritime University Faculty of Engineering and Applied Technology Introduction to Management W-Protocol Capture Sheet _______________________________________________________________________ Worry – What do you worry about with the information shared in the case study? 7. Because of covid-19 restrictions causing the engineers to not be on site, I worry that personnel supervising the solar plant system are not trained enough to tackle problems that may arise at the solar farm. This can be detrimental as previous investments would be wasted and more capital would have to be introduce to fix the damage that got out of control. 8. I worry that having the integrated security system (ISS) at only one control room could become a security risk and a serious liability. This is because having one control increases the risk information blockage if any foul play is present. In such a huge and very important facility it is best to have more that one control room with ISS because specific sections can be watched in more detail preventing problems from occurring. Wish – What would you like to see happen (wish for) based on the information shared in the case study? 9. My wish is to see countries around the world implementing this solar farm as it can be seen recently that global warming is becoming a greater threat to the environment. Increase in wildfires due to high temperatures, raise in sea level due to polar cap melting causing floods and extreme weather occurrences that are becoming more frequent. Implementing solar farm across the world would lessen this problem. 10. Another wish of mine is to see a more data storage and collection methods. This is because every detail about the operation and functioning of the system can help to predict future problems before they occur. This will save the company a lot of capital and resources if the problems are found in advance.
