INTRODUCTION
In this activity, students should be
able to design ways to obtain the
speed of each member of the
group and decide how to use these
values to determine who among
them walks fastest.
INTRODUCTION
Guide Questions:
1. What quantities did you measure for your
data?
2. How did you combine these quantities to
determine how fast each participant was
walking?
3. How did you use the result to determine who
walked fastest?
HYPOTHESIS
Speed is expressed here in meters per
second (m/s).
To support their conclusion of who walks
fastest, students will first gather data.
They will measure the total distance
travelled and the time taken to travel and
divide the distance travelled by the time
of travel.
HYPOTHESIS
O Students will conclude that the fastest
participant was the one with the highest
computed value of distance over time.
HYPOTHESIS
O Students will eventually learn that speed
is term used to describe how fast an
object/person is moving and it is obtain
through dividing total distance travelled
by the time taken to travel and
mathematically expressed as S = d/t
where S stands for speed, d stands for
distance travelled and t stand for time
taken to travel.
HYPOTHESIS
O The manipulated variable is time and
distance.
O The responding variable is speed.
MATERIALS
O Meter stick
O Ribbon
O Timer (Cellphone)
O Paper
O Pen
PROCEDURE
1. Start by choosing a spacious place to
walk straight.
2. The students will be grouped into 6.
Each group must choose a pair to
represent them and the rest of the
members will observe and record data.
3. Mark on the ground the starting line. All
participants must start from the starting
line at the same time.
PROCEDURE
4. Upon receiving the go signal, all
participants must start to walk as fast as
they could. The other members should
observe closely as the participants walk
and determine who walks fastest.
5. Repeat step 4 but this time, the students
will collect data to support their conclusion
and discuss within their group how they are
going to do this.

CONCLUSION
O Therefore, I conclude that my hypothesis
is correct. The students measured the
total distance travelled and time taken
to travel the distance which is the
required quantity to solve for the speed.
CONCLUSION
O To obtain speed, total distance travelled
is divided by the time taken to travel. It
is mathematically expressed as S= d/t,
Speed = distance /time. The one with
the highest computed value of distance
over time or speed is the fastest.
