Sand paper and/or buffing wheel to be used for surface preparation in locations where repair of faded painting is required. Dirt, Oil, Grease any other contaminants that will effect the bonding of the epoxy coating should be removed prior to any application. The surface requirements. If sand used as a blasting medium it should be clean and free from any foreign materials. Only river sand is approved to be used. Client representative primer application. Supervisor should check the profile of the cleaned surface with calibrated profile gauge. Cleanliness to be checked after surface preparation. should be cleaned witness to near white is required metal finish as per the at this point and clearance No surface preparation should be carried out under the following conditions. for CONTRACTOR CLIENT REINSTATEMENT OF 24” EXPORT PIPELINE THARJIATH CPF – WHCC SIPET/SC/24/20/433 - SPECS/20/F/TJ002 SC-24-20-433-TJ-002-CIV-MS-2001 REV. All un insulated steel surfaces should be primed and painted. Carbon steel surfaces which are insulated or fireproofed as a minimum should be coated with based paints. For damages on the electroplated pipes/ surfaces use zinc rich paints. SURFACES NOT TO BE PAINTED: 4.2.2 The following are NOT to be painted and must be protected from painting. Prime coating should be applied soon after the surface preparation and before flash rusting occurs. Finish coat should be applied as soon as possible after the drying of the primer coat and as per the manufacturer recommendations. Stacking of the material should be done such a away that no mixing should occur. 4.2.5 WET FILM THICKNESS (WFT) The WFT should be measured at least on three locations on the painted area for each coat to ensure conformance to calculated WFT. The WFT should be measured with calibrated gauge and recorded in the Daily Surface preparation and painting report 4.2.6 DRY FILM THICKNESS (DFT) The DFT should be checked after the film is sufficient dried and to meet the specified DFT. The DFT measurement should be measured after each coat at randomly chosen locations. The density of the measuring points should be normally be once in every 4 sq. mtrs for large areas and once in 1 sq. mtr for small areas The DFT measurement should be done with calibrated gauge and total required value of DFT after complete final painting is 250microne (Include primer, intermediate and final) 4.2.7 VISUAL INSPECTION After each coat the coating area should be inspected visually for visual defects like runs, sags, holidays, wrinkles, patchiness and brush or roller marks 5 DOCUMENTATION Reporting shall be done in prescribed format.
