(Re) Action Paper 10/7 My thoughts on working with my monologue with using script analysis, substitution and Uta Hagen’s nine questions. Let’s start with the script analysis, I think when you need answers to your questions about who your character is? A lot of acting coaches I have had all agree the answers are always in the script that being it says it not always easy. Next up is using the substitution exercise and I have to say that this has been very helpful. I think sometimes as growing actor some exercises are hard to grasp but I think with substitution it gives you someone to talk to and someone that you are familiar which helps you really dig in. Last but not least are Uta Hagen’s nine questions. These are very important as well because you are de ning everything about your character. This is the homework that we must do as actors to achieve true authenticity. It has taken me a little longer to learn this monologue and my challenges have been being in play, work and family but as I write this it just sounds like excuses because if this is what I want to do as profession. I need to learn to navigate my life fi better and that will come.
