PRAGMA-PROFESSIONAL TASK 2.3 Study the following list of pragma-professional tasks, then choose ONE and analyse it; provide your solution to the problem or situation described. 1. Solve the following pragma-professional task. ‘In this new, turbulent international globalized landscape, a central message must be heralded: peace is more than the absence of war, it is living together with our differences – of sex, race, language, religion or culture – while furthering universal respect for justice and human rights on which such coexistence depends. Therefore, peace should never be taken for granted. It is an on-going process, a long-term goal which requires constant engineering, vigilance and active participation by all individuals. It is a choice to be made on each situation, an everyday life decision to engage in sincere dialogue with other individual and communities, whether they live a block or a click away’. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the issue? Create a social event programme/plan for a secondary school pupils on the topic discussed. 2. Solve the following pragma-professional task. A school teacher where you work as a teacher trainee has asked you to create a ‘Class Profile’. The Profile should contain the information not only about pupils’ academic abilities, but also about their personality, family and social background. Think over the categories you would like to include in the ‘Class Profile’, and state your opinion on the importance of this information for a teacher. 3. Solve the following pragma-professional task. The school team (Riverside Primary School, Tasmania) identified their vision for creating a better future. They attended the Fairer World Festival run by A Fairer World and learnt about how children in developing countries miss out on school because they have to work. Students decided to focus on fair trade awareness as a means of achieving Millennium Development Goal 2 – Achieve universal primary education. They also wanted to become Tasmania’s first Fair Trade–accredited school. What problem is described in the situation? Consider the perspective of the Riverside Primary School and prepare a report on the topic for participation in a teacher conference. 4. Solve the following pragma-professional task. You are a teacher of the class of adolescent pupils. What problems do younger people face nowadays? Analyze the reasons and consequences of the most significant problems and prepare a talk about them (e.g. at a parents’ meeting, to the class of pupils).
