REFLECTION Formative assessment is tasting the soup while cooking. This analogy suggests that formative assessment is a technique for assessing how well the teaching-learning process is working toward a successful learning experience. When making soup, periodically tasting it will show you if you are close to getting the flavor you want. You, the cook, will be able to tell if the soup lacks salt by tasting it. Formative assessments in the classroom are like tasting the soup, which represents the learning experience, in that they can indicate whether the learning outcome is about to be met. You, as a teacher, will discover what strategies to employ in order to successfully achieve the learning outcomes through formative assessments. Should you record results of formative assessment? Why or why not? A crucial component of grading and formative assessment is keeping records. Each student's inputs should specify their level of skill with each target and its requirements at the moment. For reliability in grading, a reliable recordkeeping system is necessary. Furthermore, having the outcomes of the students' formative assessments recorded will encourage them in some way to perform well in class. . REFLECTION Yes, we had the opportunity to assess ourselves. This made it much easier for me to identify the type of learner I am. I have focused, identified my preferred learning style, and learned more about my strengths and weaknesses. Through self-assessment, I was able to determine what I already had and what I should concentrate on enhancing and attempting to gain. REFLECTION Through years of schooling, there are times when assessments do not match up with what the teacher taught or the learning objectives, but this is rare. Most of the time, assessment tasks are in line with learning outcomes. I believe that these situations arise because certain lessons are so complex that it is challenging for the teacher to perfectly align them with the learning outcomes. One's performance is significantly affected by assessments that are not in line with what the teacher taught. It causes confusion in my head as a learner about how to respond or accomplish the intended learning outcome. As a result, as a future teacher, this insight guides my choices about how to manage my classes. I've learned that each assessment task needs to be in line with the learning outcomes. Always check the learning objectives and outcomes before starting any instructional materials to ensure effective learning.
