Name: ________________________________________________________________________ Cell Project Due: ___________________________ Objective/Standards Addressed: Objective: Identify the parts (organelles) of a plant and animal cell Determine the function of the various parts (organelles) of a plant and animal cell Standard: S5L3. Students will diagram and label parts of various cells (plant, animal, single-celled, multi-celled) a. Use magnifiers such as microscopes or hand lenses to observe cells and their structure. b. Identify parts of a plant cell (membrane, wall, cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplasts) and of animal cell (membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus) and determine the function of the parts. c. Explain how cells in multi-celled organisms are similar and different in structure and function to single-celled organisms. S5CS5. Students will communicate scientific ideas and activities clearly b. Make sketches to aid in scientific procedures or ideas Directions: For this project you will be making a representation in the form of a diagram or model for an animal and a plant cell. You may choose to model each cell by drawing a 2-D picture, cutting out objects, or making a 3-D model. This is your opportunity to show your creativity. Your project may be edible or non-edible. If you choose to make an edible project to be eaten in class, please do not use any peanut products. Your representation of organelles must be realistic, similar to the ones seen in class. For example, your nucleus cannot be square. (This will be graded under the “Organelles Present in Model” criteria of the rubric). Use the pages in your science textbook pages and the diagrams from class as a reference. You will include a description of the job of each organelle with your project. Use the attached rubric and checklist as a guideline! The rubric is how your project will be graded. Be unique and creative and have fun!
