virus.’ What efforts allowed for the drop in polio cases world-wide? What challenges remain with
respect to being able to vaccinate against polio? What extra precautions can countries take to
prevent the spread of polio and other public health concerns? Considering the cost to vaccinate,
do you agree with the statement: "Of course we need to recognize that there have been a few
cases of children paralyzed because of the vaccine virus, which is regrettable. But, you know,
from a public health perspective, the benefits far outweigh the risk."
I think vaccination is important. The risk with vaccinating with a live virus is that there can be
mutations and some of those mutations can be even more detrimental than the original “wild”
virus. There’s a risk of that negative effect. But it is a slim chance. The chance of getting the
worse adverse effects vs protecting yourself is small. You are more protected than the chance of
getting the worse end of the stick. Countries have been immunionizating their citizens, and
having immunization days. They are vaxxing their citizens and providing accessibility for it. I
think providing even more of an accesibility to it with the education is really important. Always
having the option to do so is nice, they can choose not to but if they want it it’s there.the benefits
outweigh the negatives.
An ongoing national debate is to determine the extent of the involvement the US has in global
conflicts and global health. With respect to public health, discuss the pros and cons of
supporting personnel, programs, or funding to regions where citizens have public health
concerns. Please discuss whether or not you personally feel the US should allocate funding to
address global health concerns? Support your rationale. (There is no right/wrong answer here.

controversial topic.)
I think the US should help with global health. Global health is a human issue, not a political
issue. Helping people be healthy is humane and is preventing the further spread of disease.
Keeping people healthy betters society and allows people to be more connected and be safer. I
think they should allocate funds, because they are helping people, not ideologies. It’s messed
up to turn a blind eye and not give funds, especially when you have the funds to do so, to
people who are suffering. If you can prevent it do it. It helps people out and raises the way of
living and how to do so.
