Anthony Lynn Singleton Jr. Project Management 20170129 Case: A Day in the Life 1. How effectively do you think Rachel spent her day? I believe some parts of Rachel’s day were spent more productive than other parts. Like first thing in the morning she could’ve had a quicker chat with Neil, a fellow project manager. This caused a 20 minute delay to the start of her day but after that she got the ball rolling. Answering emails checking messages and planning the rest of what she has to do for the rest of the day. Some of the meetings she attends could have been planned a little better, executing a meeting properly with the right planning would make the execution phase, that seems to be the phase of the current project she is in, go a lot smoother. 2. What does the case tell you about what it is like to be a project manager? From looking at this case a project manager’s day seems to be pretty hectic, but I would say this all depends on the person and how they go about treating everyday as a project itself. Even though daily routines are not considered projects it would help if one would think about a day as a Project Life Cycle it probably wouldn’t be as overwhelming. 3. What can she do to be better at being a project manager? Defining- look at her goals and task for each day without overloading too much while still staying on schedule with what her job entails. Planning- make sure her staff is informed whether that be task they need to get done for the day to what time meetings are to start and end Executing- walking around which she did to see updates on how things are going with the operations for the day and making any sudden changes she has to do to make sure her team and herself are still on task Closing-review what she did that day give herself an evaluation as to how she thinks she did and where she could improve on the days to come
