We strongly hope to arouse the public awareness regarding the Brico brand amongst the public and able to establish friendly consumer behaviour. This report analyses how the dominance of improper working conditions, less pay rates, low sustainability and inadequate waste disposal affected Brisco CSR and also expose the reality behind the situations. Introduction Since its establishment in 2006, Brico devices has gained a great popularity globally for its products and services but always has concerns regarding corporate social responsibility. Improper working environment, unsatisfactory wages, low sustainability and unhealthy waste disposal procedures are the major issues being encountered by Brico. In this CSR report we had mentioned all the major findings which lead to these situations and suitable solutions are being recommended. Findings Poor working condition Long working shifts, working excessive overtime without a single day off during the week. Living together in crowded dorms and exposure to dangerous chemicals. Workers are paid below minimum pay scale. Poor infrastructure which may lead to a great disaster. For Example- Consider Nike which embrace CSR and went from Zero to Hero, after the collapse of Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh. Low Sustainability Standards Brico Device also has certain issues in the process of production, such as energy consumption and carbon emissions in factories as well as the prevention on near miss or accidents occurred on workers, which represents an absence of fair sustainability standards. As a result, contingent expenses including legal fees and compensation would occur and have an impact on business profits in the company due to low sustainability standards. Inadequate waste disposal During the production, Brico Devices has inappropriately treated the waste computer hardware and chemical liquid, which is gushed into river without any environmental friendly process, causing hazardous effect on the environment, mentioned by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (2016) Conclusion In light of these findings it is evident that a collective failure has occurred in carrying out CSR. Firstly, pay rate and working hours has to be revised and new code of conduct has to be outlined by providing democratic voting rights within the trade unions for better performance. Secondly, transparency should be legalised among the public and stakeholders within the company which brings more awareness. Finally, electrical and electronic wastes need to be recycled before being dumped. Organizing health check-up’s for the employees dealing with hazardous chemicals. Let us fightback and make Brico a better working place. Recommendations We should implement all policies regarding the supporting workers and also demand their contractors and suppliers to meet the desired requirements. Conduct third party audits for better outcomes and gaining credibility amongst the stakeholders.
