This includes: ❑ Basic financial accounting concepts according to the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). ❑ Recording of selected business transactions. ❑ Preparation of annual accounts /financial statements and annual reports. ❑ Introduction to financial ratios and their use in analysing financial statements. 3 Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) Knowledge and understanding: 1. Individually written exam (ILOs 1 to 4, & 6): 4.5 credits. 2. Group assignment (written and oral) (ILOs 3 to 5): 3 credits. 3. Individual Excel assignment (self-directed and online) (ILO 5): 0 credit (pass or fail only). You MUST pass ALL components in order to pass the course. 8 Assessment and Grading Determination of final grade: Points Grade 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 65-69 D 60-64 E < 60 FX Example: You received 18 points (of 30) for written group assignment, 9 points (of 10) for group presentation, and 36 points (of 60) for exam. Your final grade will be: E (18+9+36 = 63). 9 Excel Assignment (1) What is the assignment about? This self-directed assignment teaches you how to use Excel. This is in agreement with your programme directors. You will need to use Excel in your group assignment and future courses. This assignment receives no points. It is a "Pass or Fail" assignment. You need to pass this assignment in order to pass this course. Complete the course called “Excel 2016 Advanced Eng” (this is in English) or “Excel 2016 fortsättning” (this is in Swedish) in Addskills. To get started with your assignment, go to the Canvas page, under Assignment, click “Excel Assignment” and read the instructions. 10 Excel Assignment (2) There are different parts in the excel course and each part has a quiz. Once you complete all the quizzes and obtain a reasonable amount of points, you receive a certificate of completion. Upload the certificate of completion onto Canvas latest by 18 November, 17.00. If you find the assignment difficult, then I urge you to also complete the more basic course “Excel 2016 Basics Eng” (in English) or “Excel 2016 grunder” (in Swedish). If you have questions, please ask Kjel on Canvas. 11 Group Assignment (1) On 10th November, 13.00-14.00, an information session will be held on campus about this group assignment. Please attend! •Part A (Company report plus Excel calculations in a separate excel sheet): maximum 30 points with a minimum of 18 points required to pass this part. Deadline: 5th December, 17:00 (upload your report and excel separately on Canvas) •Part B (Group oral presentation): maximum 10 points with a minimum of 6 points required to pass this part. Deadline: 7th December 13:00 (upload your power point slides on Canvas) Failure to meet the assigned deadline results in a maximum grade of 60% (=Pass or E) for the related part of the assignment if the part is assessed as passed. 12 Group Assignment (2) Part A (Company report plus Excel calculations in a separate excel sheet): ➢ A listed corporation will be assigned to you. ➢ You will be performing a financial statement analysis of your corporation. ➢ You will write a report and perform the analysis on Excel. Part B (Group oral presentation): ❖ Each presentation slot is 2-hours and can have max 4 groups only. ❖ Presentations will be on campus. Mandatory attendance! ❖ Everyone in the group must speak. ❖ You have 3 weeks to complete your group assignment from 11th November. ❖ If you FAIL the group report or presentation, you will resubmit in February/present again in February. If you fail in February, you will have to redo the assignment in autumn next year. There is no make-up 13 assignment to replace this. Group Assignment (3) Group assignment lab sessions (by Amin, Mohamed) ▪ The scheduled lab sessions are hands-on sessions to help you with your group assignment. Attendance will be taken at labs. ▪ A tutor will be assigned to you. Your tutor will grade your report and presentation. ▪ You can also ask for meetings with your tutor outside of the lab sessions but make an appointment with them first. ▪ To use your time efficiently, ask your tutor specific questions. Do not ask questions where the answers are known: "What is liquidity ratio?" "What font size should I use in the written report?" "When is the deadline?“. ▪ Use your time wisely and respect your tutor’s time. 14 Exercise Seminars A, B, C, D ▪ You sign up for your preferred time slot. Time slots will be opened soon. ▪ This is not a group activity. You do not need to be with your group. ▪ A list of exercises will be given to you to try before each seminar. Please ask specific questions. 16 Individual Written Exam (60 points) ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓ Date of Exam: 19th December (Monday) 09:00-13:00 Register for the exam between 19-11-2022 to 09-12-2022! Digital Exam on Inspera. You need to sign in using JU account. It will be a closed-book exam. This means you cannot refer to your books, notes, lecture notes, the internet, or ask anyone. ✓ Do not cheat. Maintain your integrity and character. ✓ A calculator and blank pieces of paper will be provided to you during exam. ✓ Re-exam : February 2023 and August 2023. ✓ The exam will have 2 parts: ❑ Multiple-choice questions (24 Q’s, 0.5 points each, 12 points in total) ❑ Short answer questions (about 8 to 12 questions, 0.5 to 1 point, 8 points in total) ❑ 1 Comprehensive calculation question (this can be Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, T-accounts or combination) (40 points) ❖ VERY IMPORTANT!
