Module #
Module Title
I.
INTRODUCTION
This must not be more than one page long. This should include the basic theories and principles (whenever
necessary), important equations, and the objectives of the experiment. DO NOT simply COPY from the module.
This document contains the formatting of the full reports that you will submit. General formatting style includes:
Margin – narrow, Tahoma 10, line spacing – 1.0 (or single-spaced), indent (follow the indentions used here) every first line
of a new paragraph, justify the body, paper size – short bond paper. Use the ACS (American Chemical Society) Style for
citing your references. A guide on using ACS citation style was also uploaded together with the other templates. Notice also
the extra line space every after paragraph and main headings.
II.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
This must not be more than one page long. This should be written in paragraph form and in third person point of
view with the verbs in past participle form. If the procedure has been modified kindly use the modified procedure instead
of writing the old procedure and stating that it was changed to this procedure. Include the labeled experimental set-up
(you can either draw it or copy and paste from the web but don’t forget to cite the source). You may report the procedure
like this:
A. General purpose of the procedure in this part (observe sentence case in writing this portion).
Write the details of the procedure here. Be as concise as possible.
III.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
In general, this part should include tables of derived data (do not show raw data) from calculations and literature
values used (with properly cited references). A separate table that compares experimental values from literature values and
resulting percent error should also be made. Negative or no results are accepted as long as they are a product of a carefully
performed work. This should also contain the comprehensive analysis of the results, trends observed (accompanied by a
graph), generalizations formulated, errors committed and the effect of these errors on the results, other possible sources
of errors (such as inherent error of experimental procedures and apparatus), effects of any approximation or assumptions
made. If possible, you may include suggestion/s on the improvement of the exercise (procedure, design, etc.) and
applications of the exercise.
Proper way to write table and figure titles. The succeeding parts show how do we write table and figure titles.
Table 8b.1.
Table 8b.1. stands for Table 8b(module no.).1(no. of table). Tabulate the table title so that you will have a hanging
indent like this one.*
COLUMN A
COLUMN B
COLUMN C
Row A
Row B
*this is an additional note if you want to emphasize some things. You may also change the font size of the table to properly fit the contents. Kindly follow
these borders for your tables.
For figures on the other hand, kindly follow this format:
*this is your figure*
Figure 8b.1.
Figure 8b.1 stands for Figure 3(module no.).1(no. of figure).
This should be below the figure and if your figure title is short
enough, you can adjust this to center, otherwise, justify.
Notice that the figure’s text wrapping is in line with text. Font sizes for the title and main text of the figures and
tables were adjusted to size 9 and the specialized note under the table is size 8.
For the equations, kindly follow this format:
PV=nRT
IV.
(Equation 8b.1.)
CONCLUSION
This should only include the important points, trends, principles/theories, and generalizations in relation to objectives
of the exercise. State any conclusions reached and comment on its validity.
V.
SAMPLE CALCULATIONS
Sample calculations must be included and should be handwritten. You can take a picture of your solution and just
paste it in this section. In doing this part, you can just simply follow the calculations that were outlined in the data treatment.
Show the equations used. Show a complete calculation of one datum representative of the data contained in the tables.
Show plotted values including results of linear regression whenever necessary.
If any drill-type questions were included, the solutions to those problems should also be handwritten and should be
put in this section.
VI.
REFERENCE CITED
Follow the ACS citation style. All of the cited literature (via in-text citation) in the introduction and results and
discussion part should be appear here. All of the cited literature here must be present in the body of your paper. Minimum
of three literatures (journal/article/books). This laboratory manual, handbooks, websites, online forum and such should not
be considered in the minimum number of literatures.
