The Sentence
There are four TYPES of sentences in English:
Statement – supplies information.
Shaun is going to school.
Question – asks for information.
Where is Shaun going?
Exclamation – expresses emotions such as surprise, fear, alarm or anger.
This work is unacceptable!
Command – gives orders or instructions
Leave the room immediately.
There are three CLASSES of sentences in English:
Simple Sentence- has one finite verb and deals with one idea.
Anne reads a book.
Compound Sentence – has two or more finite verbs. It may be made up of two
or more simple sentences joined by a conjunction.
Dan plays soccer at school and works on his computer at home.
Complex Sentence – contains one main clause or thought and one or more
subordinate clauses which provide additional information. They are joined
by conjunctions.
Candice received her results / while was recuperating in hospital / after she
had broken her leg.
