COMPUTER PROCESSING UNIT
A central processing unit is the electronic circuitry
within a computer that carries out the instructions of a
computer program by performing the basic arithmetic,
logic, controlling, and input/output operations specified
by the instructions.
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM)
Random-access memory is a form of computer data
storage that stores data and machine code currently
being used. A random-access memory device allows data
items to be read or written in almost the same amount of
time irrespective of the physical location of data inside
the memory.
HARD DISK
A hard disk drive (HDD), hard disk, hard drive, or fixed
disk is an electromechanical data storage device that
uses
magnetic
storage
to
store
and
retrieve digital information using one or more rigid rapidly
rotating disks (platters) coated with magnetic material.
NORTH BRIDGE
A northbridge or host bridge is one of the two chips in
the core logic chipset architecture on a PC motherboard,
the other being the southbridge. Unlike the southbridge,
northbridge is connected directly to the CPU via the frontside bus and is thus responsible for tasks that require the
highest performance.
SOUTH BRIDGE
The southbridge is one of the two chips in the core
logic chipset on a personal computer motherboard, the
other being the northbridge. The southbridge typically
implements the slower capabilities of the motherboard in
a northbridge/southbridge chipset computer architecture.
CD-ROM
A CD-ROM is a pre-pressed optical compact disc that
contains data. Computers can read—but not write to or
erase—CD-ROMs, i.e. it is a type of read-only memory.
During the 1990s, CD-ROMs were popularly used to
distribute software and data for computers and fourth
generation video game consoles.
KEYBOARD
A computer keyboard is a typewriter-style device
which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys to act as
mechanical levers or electronic switches. Following the
decline of punch cards and paper tape, interaction via
teleprinter-style keyboards became the main input
method for computers.
COMPUTER MOUSE
computer mouse is a hand-held pointing device that
detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface. This
motion is typically translated into the motion of
a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control of
the graphical user interface.
MONITOR
A computer monitor is an output device that displays
information in pictorial form. A monitor usually comprises
the display device, circuitry, casing, and power supply.
DESKTOP COMPUTER
A typical desktop computer consists of a computer system
unit, a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor. The computer
system unit is the enclosure for all the other main interior
components of a computer. It is also called the computer
case, computer chassis, or computer tower. Cases are
typically made of steel or aluminum, but plastic can also be
used. While most computer cases are rather dull, black, metal
boxes, some manufacturers try to give the unit some flair with
color and special design elements.
PRINTER
A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic
output from a computer and transfers the information to
paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper. Printers
vary in size, speed, sophistication, and cost. In general,
more expensive printers are used for higher-resolution
color printing.
PROJECTOR
A projector or image projector is an optical device that
projects an image (or moving images) onto a surface,
commonly a projection screen. Most projectors create an
image by shining a light through a small transparent lens,
but some newer types of projectors can project the image
directly, by using lasers.
COMPUTER HUB
When referring to a network, a hub is the most basic
networking device that connects multiple computers or
other
network
devices
together.
Unlike
a
network switch or router, a network hub has no routing
tables or intelligence on where to send information and
broadcasts all network data across each connection.
ROUTER
A router is a networking device that forwards data
packets between computer networks. Routers perform
the traffic directing functions on the Internet. Data sent
through the internet, such as a web page or email, is in
the form of data packets.
UTP CABLE
UTP cable is a 100 ohm copper cable that consists of 2
to 1800 unshielded twisted pairs surrounded by an outer
jacket. They have no metallic shield. This makes
the cable small in diameter but unprotected against
electrical interference.
RJ45
A
registered
jack
(RJ)
is
a
standardized
telecommunication network interface for connecting
voice and data equipment to a service provided by a local
exchange carrier or long distance carrier.
HDMI CABLE
HDMI
(High-Definition
Multimedia
Interface)
is
a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed
video data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data
from an HDMI-compliant source device, such as a display
controller,
to
a
compatible
computer
monitor,
video
projector, digital television, or digital audio device. HDMI is a digital
replacement for analog video standards.
VGA CONNECTOR
A Video Graphics Array (VGA) connector is a three-row 15pin DE-15 connector. The 15-pin VGA connector was provided on
many video cards, computer monitors, laptop computers,
projectors, and high definition television sets. On laptop computers
or other small devices, a mini-VGA port was sometimes used in
place of the full-sized VGA connector.
