Phoenix College Numeracy Assessment Rubric Criteria of Numeracy Rubric 4 3 2 1 Analyze a given problem Completely detailed the needed element(s) for problem analysis by formulating question(s) or identifying relevant/missing information. Accurately represented all of the given information by graph, chart, equation, formula, picture, or spreadsheet, etc. Achieved correct mathematical results including correct units of measure (if needed). Correctly detailed some of the needed element(s) for problem analysis by formulating question(s), identifying relevant or missing information. Accurately represented some of the given information by graph, chart, equation, formula, picture, or spreadsheet, etc. Achieved some correct mathematical results, but needed units of measure not included. Inaccurately formulated question(s), incorrectly identified relevant or missing information. No evidence of question formulation, identification of relevant or missing information. No representation of given information shown. Incorrect results - Major mathematical flaws or serious errors in reasoning. No mathematical results shown. Shows complete understanding of the model and question(s) by making inference about reality or choosing a best course of action based on results or discussing the meaning of the answer in relation to the reallife question. Review of result(s) shown. Shows partial understanding of the model and question(s) by making inference about reality or choosing a best course of action based on results or discusses the meaning of the answer in relation to the reallife question. No evidence of review of result(s). Shows misunderstanding of the model and question(s) by making incorrect inference about reality or not choosing a best course of action based on results or inaccurately discusses the meaning of the answer in relation to the real-life question. No evidence of review of result(s). No inferences, conclusions drawn. No evidence of review of result(s). Select/Develop a Model Solve the problem Use the model & review results Revised 9/20/13 SB Information inaccurately represented by graph, chart, equation, formula, picture, or spreadsheet, etc. Numeracy Outcome Statement Phoenix College students will demonstrate the capabilities to analyze a problem, represent it with an accurate mathematical model, determine the correct answer, evaluate the answer for reasonableness, and use the answer to make inferences about the real world. NUMERACY RUBRIC FOR PHOENIX COLLEGE To assess a sample of student work, the evaluator will determine the level to which the student has demonstrated the following outcomes. 1. Analyze a given problem by formulating a question identifying relevant information identifying missing information finding additional information needed 2. Select or develop a model to accurately represent the data or information given in the problem (for example, a graph, chart, equation, formula, spreadsheet, pictorial representation, etc.). 3. Solve the problem with or without technology to achieve correct mathematical results using correct units of measurement. 4. Review results for reasonableness and/or multiple correct solutions. 5. Discuss, explain, or demonstrate the use of the model for making inferences or drawing conclusions. Revised 9/20/13 SB
