Organic vs. Conventional Food: Is Organic a Scam?

advertisement
Organic or conventional?
Why would you spend more money for organic food that doesn't serve as
many benefits as you think? This is a question that I have after reading the
article, “ The Campaign for Organic Food Is a Deceitful, Expensive Scam.” One
of the reasons why people still buy organic food is because they aren’t aware
of the little benefits organic food actually has. People keep buying organic
food because they have no knowledge of the damages it does to the
environment. They believe that organic food will keep them away from
illnesses like cancer. Consumers should avoid organic food because of the high
costs associated with it.
Labeling is one of the main reasons why people still are not aware of
what they are putting in their body other than “organic”, the article
quotes,”We are going to force them to label this food. If we have it labeled,
then we can organize people not to buy it.” This means they are taking
advantage of the no knowledge people consuming these foods have, not
labeling their products' benefits other than being organic for double the price
of an item does not equal better. This is just a way to get more people to pay
more for something that won't guarantee them wellness.
People believe that by consuming organic food they are helping the
environment but this is just the opposite of helping,“What’s ironic is that
though the organic lobby positions its industry as a green alternative to
conventional agriculture, it’s actually more harmful to the environment”, quotes
the author. This is because organic food in fact employs pesticides like,
insecticides and fungicides nothing that they claim of not having any chemicals
involved and many of those organic pesticides are more toxic than the
synthetic ones used in ordinary framing, this is to prevent predation of its
crops.
Organic food has claimed for years to be free of pesticides, according to
(citiensagaisntgovwaste) organic food utilizes more toxic pesticides than
conventional farming while claiming to be natural farms.¨ Synthetic chemical
pesticides are, in general, prohibited according to Miller, but the Organic
Foods Production Act has a long list of accepted “natural” pesticides. Of
course, just because something is natural does not mean it is safe; natural
pesticides can be very toxic too.¨ This means people are putting these
chemicals without even knowing if it might have a negative effect on them since
they aren't honest with the way they farm organic food.
Many people might argue that conventional food contributes to the
development of cancer by raising levels of carcinogenic substances in the body,
or that in organic farming soil and water contamination does not exist since
they claim there is zero use of synthetic chemicals. Nevertheless, all these
claims can’t be supported truthfully because whether we consume organic or
conventional food we are not guaranteed to be free from developing cancer
and other illnesses. Consuming organic food does not make you healthier nor
mean you are helping the environment. It only means you are paying double the
price for your food because on its label it states “organic food”.
In conclusion, is organic food really what people believe it is? In the article ,
“The Campaign for Organic Food Is a Deceitful, Expensive Scam.” We are able
to see the point of view of the author, how organic food is actually a scam and
people are still believing it is worth their money. We learn how consuming
organic food does not help our environment whatsoever, how organic food is
also farmed with pesticides just like conventional foods. To add on, labeling
their products with the actual ingredients used might keep many from
consuming organic foods that are not really organic, it can keep them from
spending so much money and switch to growing the food themselves for safer
food options. Lastly, organic food won’t keep your well-being secure and away
from cancer. Organic food and conventional food are not that far from each
other as we thought.
