Dear God,
1
MATHEMATICS IN THE
MODERN WORLD
Prepared by:
Hermie M. Valencia
Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the student are about to:
1.Identify patterns in the nature in the world;
2.Articulate the importance of mathematics in
one’s life;
3.Argue about the nature of mathematics, what it
is, how it is expressed, represented, and used and;
4.Express appreciation for mathematics as a
human endeavor
NATURE OF
MATHEMATICS
➢How often have you stopped to
appreciate the beauty of the things
around you?
➢Have you ever paused and pondered
about the underlying principles that
govern the universe?
❖As rational creatures, we tend to
identify and follow patterns whether
consciously or subconsciously.
❖Recognizing patterns feels natural
like our brain is hardwired to recognize
them.
Activity 1: Write an essay about how you use
Mathematics in our world using the following guided
questions: (at least 150 words) (20 minutes to answer)
1. What is mathematics for you?
2. Where do you apply the principles of mathematics?
3. Do you need mathematics every day? Why?
4. What have you learned from school on mathematics so far?
5. Do you appreciate mathematics? Why or why not?
PATTERNS AND
NUMBERS IN NATURE
AND THE WORLD
PATTERN
Patterns are regular, repeated, or
recurring forms or designs.
Example:
EXAMPLE:
EXAMPLE:
EXAMPLE:
1. What number comes nest in
1, 3, 5, 7, ….?
2. What number comes next in
1, 4, 9, 16, 25,….?
Early Humans recognized the repeated interval of day and
night, the cycle of the moon, the rising and falling of tides
and the changing of seasons.
360/3=120
360/5=72
360/4=90
Activity 2: Identify at least 10 patterns and
regularities in your surroundings by taking photos,
describe each by applying principles of mathematics.
(30 minutes to take 10 pictures)
