CPR (CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION):
BSIP: Body Substance Isolation Precaution – Required to first aid responder to practice strict
infection control t isolate or prevent risk of exposure from body secretions (Blood & Body fluids
= Blood, urine, feces, tears etc. are infectious)
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment – “Barriers to prevent transfer of microorganisms and
prevent injury. – Gowns – Gloves – Caps – Mask – Goggles/Face Shield – Shoe Cover
DCAPBTLS: D – Deformity (malformation
C – Contusion (bruise)
A – Abrasion (scrape, scratch)
P – Puncture (pierce, stab)
B – Burn (injury from flame)
T – Tenderness (inflammation)
L – Laceration (deep cut, tear)
S – Swelling (lump, enlargement)
 When to STOPS the CPR?
S – Spontaneous Signs of Life (Breathing and Circulation)
T – Turn over to EMS (Emergency Medical Services)
O – Operator is exhausted
P - Physician assumes responsibility
Give 5 cycles of 30 compression and 2 ventilations each cycle.
Total: 150 compressions and 10 ventilations (blow)
 Compression Area
Adult (13 years old and above) Center of the chest (in lower half sternum)
Child (1 to 12 years old): Center of the chest (on lower half of sternum)
Infant (Under 1 yr. old) Center of the chest (on lower half sternum just below
nipple line)
 Dept of Compression:
Adult: 1.5 to 2 inches (5cm)
Child: 1 to 1.5 inches
Infant: 0.5 to 1 inch
 Speed: (Adult, Child and Infant) at least 100 compressions per minute
 Performing CPR:
0-4 minutes: can revive the brain
5 minutes: brain damage
Greater that 10 minutes: brain dead

Check Breathing LLF (Look, Listen, Feel) – Check the Pulse on the CAROTID.

“Negative (-) Pulse * Negative (-) Breathing. Please follow up EMS as I do CPR”
5 Cycles: 30 Chest Compression & 2 Ventilation (M-M, Pinch Nose & LLF)
