Question 7:
Read the passage and answer the questions that follow:
Water is an important basic need.
There is a great need for water, because there are so many people living in our
country. Pollution and people who waste water, make this problem worse. All living
things rely on water and will die without it.
We get our water from rivers, reservoirs and dams. We need clean water for
drinking and cooking and to produce healthy food. Humans, animals and plants
cannot use seawater, as it is too salty. Farms can only produce healthy crops if
there is a good, clean water supply.
Detergents like washing powder and dishwashing liquid are made from chemicals.
These chemicals cause dirt to attach itself to water. When we are done with our
washing, this dirty water goes down the drain. This water must be cleaned before
we can use it again. All the water that we drink and use in our houses, has been
cleaned. They clean our water at the water purification plant.
