Genesis 21-23
The Birth of Isaac: 21: 1-7
1. What does Sarah have done to her son when he is eight days old? He gets circumcised

Hagar and Ishmael sent away: 21: 8-21
1. What occurs between Sarah and Hagar? Sarah does not want Hagar’s son to be heir of
her so she makes Abraham send Hagar and her son away
2. What does Sarah tell Abraham to do? Cast out Hagar and her son
3. Why does Sarah want Abraham to send Hagar away? She wants to cast out the son of
Hagar because she doesn’t want him to be heir with her son Isaac
4. How does Abraham feel about this? He was displeased
5. What does God tell Abraham to do? He tells him to listen to and do anything that sarah
says and he cant be displeased with her
6. When Hagar and Ishmael end up in the desert what does she do with Ishmael? She puts
him in a bush
7. When God arrives what does he do for them and what does he promise them? He
helped them and promised to make the boy into a great nation.
The Treaty at Beersheeba 21: 22-34
Abraham and Abimelech make a treaty at Beersheeba. Remember Abraham tricked Abimelech
into thinking that Sarah was his sister. Abraham makes a treaty so that won’t happen again.
Abimelech recognizes that God is powerful so he doesn’t want to upset Abraham’s God.
Abraham tested 22: 1-19
God tell s Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac. He leaves with his servants and Isaac.
1. What does Abraham put on Isaac when they leave the servants? Sheep and oxen
2. What question does Isaac ask Abraham? “What is the meaning of these seven ewe
lambs that you have set apart?”
3. What is Abraham’s answer? “These seven lambs you will take from my hand, that this
may be a witness for me that I dug this well”
4. When they arrive at the site what do they build? An altar
5. What happens when Abraham is about to plunge the knife into Isaac? The angel of the
lord calls to him to stop him
6. What ends up being the sacrifice? A ram
7. What did Abraham end up calling that place? The lord will provide
8. Who calls to Abraham from heaven? The angel of the Lord
9. Why do you think God put Abraham through this? To go through the sacrifice of Isaac
The Death Sarah

2. What is Abraham’s response He went in to the mourn for sarah and to weep for her.
Abraham buys a piece of land. The cave of Machphelah is where all the Patriarchs and their
wives are buried.
