MATHEMATICS/ ESP/ AP 8
Description: This activity involves the creation of a solid figure out of a given plane figure and expressing it
in terms of factors of a polynomial.
GOAL: The learner is to develop a plan on how to promote the Philippines and Southeast Asian culture and
heritage.
ROLE: A country’s representative in a cultural and heritage event.
AUDIENCE: Representatives from across the world.
SITUATION: You were selected with the recommendation of the National Commission for Culture and the

gathering of nations this November. You were tasked to prepare the following:
a. Identify the characteristics of Arts and Crafts in Southeast Asia and specifically describe what
Philippines can offer.
b. Solve problem on factors of polynomials involving a Filipino game.
c. List down three (3) traditions that strengthen the Filipino families.
PERFORMANCE: Design a brochure showcasing the Southeast Asian culture and heritage which will
serve as your paraphernalia as you represent the country.

Directions: Create a solid figure from the rectangular figure that was provided by the following steps given.
(You may use old cardboard, folder and or board paper.)
STEPS:
1. Cut out 2 inches by 2 inches in all edges of 12 inches by 6 inches rectangle.
2. Fold all sides upward.
3. Paste/Tape the edges of the new figure.
12 inches
6 inches
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the area of the original rectangle if its side is x units?
2. If each side of the small squares is y, what expression represents its area?
3. How will you express the area of the new figure in terms of the variables started in questions 1 and
2?
4. What is the dimension of the new figure formed?
5. If the value of x is 4cm and the value of y is 1, what will be the dimension of the new figure?
NOTE:
Area of a rectangle = length x width
Area of a square = square of one side
