MS Studies Native American Class Project
Choose 1 of the 3 main tribes that were found in Mississippi to do the following research
on: Choctaw, Chickasaw, or Natchez
Each student will answer each of the following questions for each tribe they choose.
Your Research must include:
3 Separate sources for information. You will create a source page within your slides.
The web address you found the information at must be included.
Once you have completed your research you will create a PowerPoint or Google Slides
presentation. Each slide will answer one question.
You will receive one test grade for your research and presentation.
Questions to answer:
1. Locate a map of MS, showing the area of the state your particular tribe lived in.
Included with this map should be the population of your chosen tribe at the arrival of
the Europeans in MS (both general population and the number of warriors in the
population).
2. Who were they known for? Origin of name? Meaning?
3. Where did they come from?
4. When did they come to be? What caused them to move? (time period)
5. Which accomplishment was their most lasting impact?
6. Economy: Hunting or farming?
7. Family makeup and Equality
8. Entertainment (music, sports, dance, art etc.)
9. Food of the particular people
10. Language
11. Architecture of their housing
12. Hostile or peaceful?
13. Your PowerPoint should describe the government of your tribe. How was it divided up?
Who was in charge? How were decisions made?
14. Your PowerPoint should describe the society of the tribe. Was it divided into different
classes?
Who was responsible for what jobs?
15. Your PowerPoint should describe the culture of the tribe. How did they dress? What was
their religion? What customs did they have that were different from the other tribes of the
state?
16. Your PowerPoint should describe the funerals of the tribe. Each tribe were different and
reflected the culture of that particular tribe.
