Acting improvisations helps student actors think and act on their feet, try out
different emotions and characters, and improve their off the cuff acting
abilities. Improv acting can often be hilarious and fun, but it’s perfectly
acceptable to encourage dramatic, tense scenes as well; after all, not all
productions or scenes are humorous in nature. Actors should also try to find
ways to give their scenes a twist at the end.
How to Use this Resource: Copy the prompts onto cardstock, cut them out,
and place the scenarios into a box. Let students draw their improvisation
scenario card for a fun theatre arts session. Give students one minute to read
and discuss their scene before acting out the scenario. Students must act out
their scene by reacting to each other's words, actions, and emotions. The
scenarios in this packet are written for partner improvisation.
Bonus: At the end of this resource is a printable label for your theater
improvisation box or bag. Print on cardstock, cut out the label, laminate, and
attach with double-sided tape; or print on sticker paper and cut. Three sizes:
3 x 5, 4 x 6, and 5 x 7.
