Science 14: Chapter 2 Research Project
Elements and Compounds in Our World
Your Task
 By yourself or with a partner, create a brochure, poster, or Google Slides Presentation highlighting
the key concepts of this chapter. Your project will need to include the following sections:
1) Title (or Title Page if using Google Slides)
2) Periodic Table Overview
3) Parts of the Periodic Table
 Alkali Metals, Alkaline Earth Metals, Non-Metals, Metalloids, Non-Metals, Noble Gases
4) Specific Element Research (Choose 3)
5) Specific Compound Research (Choose 3)
6) Link(s) to related videos or interactive websites (at least 1)
Section Details
1) Title- Create a visually appealing Title (page) for your presentation.
2) Periodic Table Overview:
 Who created the Periodic Table? When/How was it created?
 How is the Periodic Table Organized?
 What Information is given for each element?
3) Parts of the Periodic Table:
 For each part of the periodic table (Alkali Metals, etc.), answer the following questions:
 What are the general similar properties of each section of elements?
 What are some examples of elements within this group.
4) Specific Element Research (Choose 3)
 For each element you choose, consider the following questions:
 What are the physical properties of the element? (Appearance, Conductivity, State
of Matter, Malleability, etc.)
 Is the element reactive?
 Where is this element found? Found in Nature or created in another way?
 Is this element available for purchase? If so, how much does it cost?
 What applications does the element have (where and how is it used)?
 Any other interesting information
5) Specific Compound Research (Choose 3)
 For each compound include the following information:
 The chemical formula and the common name
 The total number of atoms within the compound
 Physical Properties of the compound (state of matter, appearance, etc.)
 Applications (uses) of the compound
 Safety Considerations (storage, handling, etc.) for the compound
 Any other interesting information
6) Link to Other Resources/Videos
 Create a QR code (or codes) to link to a related video, site, etc.
Instructions for QR Code Creating
1) Go to the website www.qrcodify.com
2) Paste your youtube link at the top.
3) Hit Submit and Download the image.
4) Copy the QR code and embed it in your poster/presentation. If you have a smart phone,
test the QR code to see if it works.
