MODERN ART MOVEMENTS
What is Modern Art?
Based on our current perspective, the start of the 20th century is recognized as a period of
revolution and change in art. There are also a number of painters, sculptors, writers, and performers
who represent a changing series of ideas. The artist has been seen portraying the world that the
public knows or has never seen before in unusual ways. They create a number of modern types of
art that not only s broke artistic conventions from the past, but point the way to the future.
Europe was at first the birthplace of these modern types, which had a significant effect on the
art produced in America later on. This changed, however, as the century passed and America's art
started showing bold new character. Finally, American artist's artworks became a model that artists
turned to inspire in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
