ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ARTS
The roots of vocabulary we talked about art are the elements and principles of art and
design. The elements of art are the visual instruments used for making a painting by the artist. The
principles of art are how the artist uses the elements of art to generate an impact and to help
communicate the intention of the artist. Applying these concepts will help decide whether a
painting is good and whether the painting is finished or not.
In a painting the artist decides which art principles he / she intends to use. While an artist
does not use all the principles of design in a single piece, the principles are interwoven and the use
of one always depends on another.
