Case Study 1 1. Is the structure of Port of Tauranga, whereby it has many operations and services which to focus, likely to be a strength or a liability in times of market turbulence? Why? Do you think it would be more difficult to manage than, say, a company that operates in only one area of the industry? Why? A strength. I would consider it a strength this is because the port is not only fixed on one source of operation but rather have ventured out into different operations and therefore when one fails the other can be used to stabilize therefore, balancing out each other, thus it would be strength. Both, Yes and no Yes, it is true that managing a company that only specialize in one area of the industry is easier to manage than that of the one that specialize in more than one, but it will also depend on the person managing the company. Like with reference to the abstract the port was running for long but there were no good improvements until Jon Mayson came in, not only did he ventured out into other areas but he also made the port grow exponentially while making it all look easy to handle. 2. Do you believe Jon Mayson has exhibited key management and leadership attributes? Yes. As stated in the abstract “An unusual good and effective chief executive officer, Leadership is the thing that stands out with him”. This statement clearly tells us that he has exhibited key management and leadership attributes 3. Can you track the connection between personal business attributes, management processes and organisational results? Speculating, what else might be involved in business success? Good organisational results can be achieved if one has proper management process and also have good personal attributes. Bonus, increased salaries, compensation, etc all this motivates one to give better result, thus having a better organisational result
