The
Harvard
Legacy
The simulation of global diplomacy at Harvard predates the foundation of the United Nations. Initially
modelled as a simulation of the proceedings of the now-defunct League of Nations. Since 1953, the
Harvard Model United Nations has served as a benchmark for Model UN conferences the world over.
Harvard MUN is one of the world’s oldest and is often ranked as the most prestigious of its kind.
At HMUN, students get together over 4 days to debate, discuss, & deliberate some of the biggest
challenges that are affecting humanity to identify globally acceptable solutions. Every year, the Harvard
International Relations Council hosts conferences in Boston, Beijing, Dubai, Latin America & Hyderabad
bringing together thousands of participants and institutions to participate in debate and negotiation at
the highest level.
Harvard Model United Nations India is one of Asia’s most sought-after Model UN conferences for
high school students. Over the past 10 years, HMUN India has engaged more than 20000 young minds
from over 500 schools across 80 cities and 20 countries. The Harvard International Relations Council
and Worldview Education have been pioneering The HMUN India experience and have witnessed the
conference grow both stature and in numbers. The upcoming 12th edition of the conference aims to
uphold its legacy of delivering a wholesome and educational experience to the delegates and faculty
through engagements that complement Model UN perfectly.
True to its nature, HMUN India is hosted in the most spectacular setting at the Hyderabad International
Convention Centre, one of Asia’s biggest state-of-the-art multi-purpose convention centres located in
the buzzing HITEC city in Hyderabad. The city of Nizams complements the ideals of the conference to
the fullest by lending its grandeur and charm along with its multiculturalism and cosmopolitan nature
certifying the dynamic temperament of the participants.

Pillars of HMUN India
As the world progresses at an ever-increasing pace, and in the wake of our development, we are faced
with a plethora of new and unique challenges that encompass the globe and its people. It is clear that
we must develop the necessary capacity to respond adequately. The question is, are we carving out
opportunities from these challenges? Are we empowering those with meaningful solutions? Are we
cultivating a tradition of actionable impact? Are we building a Generation of Solvers?
Excellence
The HMUN experience is synonymous with excellence. We take pride in motivating our delegates to
dream the unthinkable and achieve the impossible. Our conference hails from a belief that excellence
is not a skill but an attitude, a habit. Such a habit that we have showcased consistently throughout with
intelligent planning and focussed effort.
Our staff comprises the brightest young minds
from Harvard University to form our staff pool,
ensuring a carefully crafted academic experience
for all delegates supplemented with thoroughly
researched and framed background guides and
other material provided to the delegates. The
HMUN India experience goes beyond providing
a masterclass in parliamentary procedure and
debate. At HMUN India, a delegate is ensured an
immersive experience that preaches the values of a
true diplomatic approach grounded in cooperation,
negotiation, and respect for others’ perspectives
and cultures. This edition takes place after a worldaltering pandemic, and changes in the geopolitical
arena will be well reflected in the committees
simulated at this year’s conference.
Diversity
What makes HMUN India stand out from every other
conference is the scale and diversity of our participants.
HMUN India provides a host of substantive issues for this
dynamic group of students hailing from over 200 schools
and 15 countries that creates a forum for debate and
negotiation among them – a truly worthwhile experience.
Our conference is designed to foster negotiation and public
speaking skills, introduce students to a range of global
challenges, and provide culturally diverse perspectives on
a variety of issues. Our strong emphasis on representation
at our conference from schools across the globe ensures
the HMUN India experience is a truly international one.
Leadership
The HMUN India stage has witnessed the transformation of the Gen-Z into a Generation of Solvers. The
crimson colours of the conference have acted as catalysts to drive positive change in oneself and the
people around. This process is aided by the presence of a host of distinguished individuals who have
been trailblazers in their field. HMUN India over the years has hosted eminent personalities from the
government, the diplomatic corps, academia, civil leaders, the corporate sector and the entertainment
industry. HMUN India works with the vision of making leaders that enables others to embrace a vision
in which they feel a sense of purpose, ownership, personal engagement aligned with the social impact
being the north star!

Inclusivity
Effective learning takes place when the various stakeholders work towards a common goal together.
Faculty Advisors have been crucial to that process through their continued guidance to the delegates and
their close association with HMUN India. The conference facilitates their involvement to further enhance
the learning experience for all stakeholders through leadership forum sessions, dedicated speaker interactions, engaging workshops, social and networking events, and historic and cultural explorations,
among other activities.
HMUN INDIA
POSITIVE IMPACT
Translating meaningful discussions into veritable impact has remained a core objective of our endeavour.
We pride ourselves on the reality of creating pathways of understanding and action that encourage
students to pioneer innovative solutions to address the world’s biggest challenges through the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). We enable this by offering a platform for students to advocate on issues
they care about, identify solutions and work within their means to bring about change in their immediate
communities. As part of this, the Impact Initiative serves as a platform for showcasing & recognising
inspiring work being done by individuals and organisations to solve global problems and stand a
chance at securing funding and support to accelerate the impact of their work.
HMUN India is committed to making a direct social impact by raising money for the HMUN India
Development Fund. Over the years, HMUN India has worked with different NGOs and local
governments to support important causes. Beginning in 2017, the Development Fund has been focused
on Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of Telangana. Recent funds have provided solar
panels to the village, resources for the local school, and access to drinking water and toilets. Moving
forward, HMUN India will focus on the waste and sewage management of the village using various
sustainable technologies with the objective to create circular economic models around waste and water.
Over the years, HMUN India has taken its own Positive Action through extending
its support to students at Government schools, NGO’s and Social Welfare
organizations through initiating a Development Fund and raising funds at the
conference.
At the 2012 HMUN India conference staff, delegates and the Director of the World Health
Organization (WHO) committee visited the Desire Society. Desire Society is an NGO in Hyderabad
working to provide welfare to children affected by HIV/AIDS.
In 2013, HMUN India raised 1 lakh rupees for the rehabilitation of children affected by the Uttarakhand
floods. The amount raised was donated to the ‘Save the Children’ initiative for relief efforts.
Delegates of HMUN India 2014 documented stories of NGOs which were dedicated to achieving
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). A total of 1 lakh rupees was raised from the conference
which was later donated to two NGOs – Ekal Vidyalaya and Bhagavathy Charitable Trust.
In 2015, Funds raised from the following year’s conference were passed on to Ani Choying Drolma’s
‘Nun’s Welfare Foundation in Nepal’.
In 2017, A government run school located in Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of
Telangana, benefited from HMUN India’s efforts to improve their existing education by introducing
programs and activities that focus on developing social values and increase awareness about
environmental issues.
In 2018, HMUN India Development Fund has provided the Government run school located in
Shapur with clean water and sanitation and we are working towards providing the students with a
healthy and enriching education environment. Our initiative Act to Impact saw participation from
28 groups of young change makers and engaged more than 400 students across the country.

Celebration
HMUN India is not just a conference, it’s a celebration! A celebration of ideas,
achievements and of coming together for the collective cause of building a brighter future.
We ensure that learning is well complemented with ample opportunities to unwind and
connect with fellow students who hail from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The social
events at HMUN India are known for their vibrancy and energy. HMUN India’s social
elements are just as integral a part of what makes our conference unique. 2022 promises
to be that much more special - with our delegates dance, talent shows and many more!

an umbrella organization for seven semi-independent and centrallyfunded programs: Harvard Project for International Education,
International Relations on Campus, Harvard International Review,
Model Security Council, Intercollegiate Model United Nations, Harvard
Model United Nations, and Harvard National Model United Nations.
Worldview is a global learning movement focused on social progress
through transformative leadership development. Worldview’s
