HMUN INDIA POSITIVE IMPACT Translating meaningful discussions into veritable impact has remained a core objective of our endeavour. We pride ourselves on the reality of creating pathways of understanding and action that encourage students to pioneer innovative solutions to address the world’s biggest challenges through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We enable this by offering a platform for students to advocate on issues they care about, identify solutions and work within their means to bring about change in their immediate communities. As part of this, the Impact Initiative serves as a platform for showcasing & recognising inspiring work being done by individuals and organisations to solve global problems and stand a chance at securing funding and support to accelerate the impact of their work. HMUN India is committed to making a direct social impact by raising money for the HMUN India Development Fund. Over the years, HMUN India has worked with different NGOs and local governments to support important causes. Beginning in 2017, the Development Fund has been focused on Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of Telangana. Recent funds have provided solar panels to the village, resources for the local school, and access to drinking water and toilets. Moving forward, HMUN India will focus on the waste and sewage management of the village using various sustainable technologies with the objective to create circular economic models around waste and water. Over the years, HMUN India has taken its own Positive Action through extending its support to students at Government schools, NGO’s and Social Welfare organizations through initiating a Development Fund and raising funds at the conference. At the 2012 HMUN India conference staff, delegates and the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) committee visited the Desire Society. Desire Society is an NGO in Hyderabad working to provide welfare to children affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2013, HMUN India raised 1 lakh rupees for the rehabilitation of children affected by the Uttarakhand floods. The amount raised was donated to the ‘Save the Children’ initiative for relief efforts. Delegates of HMUN India 2014 documented stories of NGOs which were dedicated to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). A total of 1 lakh rupees was raised from the conference which was later donated to two NGOs – Ekal Vidyalaya and Bhagavathy Charitable Trust. In 2015, Funds raised from the following year’s conference were passed on to Ani Choying Drolma’s ‘Nun’s Welfare Foundation in Nepal’. In 2017, A government run school located in Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of Telangana, benefited from HMUN India’s efforts to improve their existing education by introducing programs and activities that focus on developing social values and increase awareness about environmental issues. In 2018, HMUN India Development Fund has provided the Government run school located in Shapur with clean water and sanitation and we are working towards providing the students with a healthy and enriching education environment. Our initiative Act to Impact saw participation from 28 groups of young change makers and engaged more than 400 students across the country.
