INTRODUCTION
It is every teacher’s worst nightmare to spend time planning out a unit only to �nd students having no idea of what is being taught, what the key
learning points are, or what is expected of them throughout the unit. There is a simple way to avoid this nightmare, and that is by having strong
learning objectives for your units. By setting these �rst, you set your students and yourself on the right track from the beginning. But what does a
learning objective include exactly? Is it the same thing as having an agenda? In this section we will be looking at the three components every
learning objective must include in order to be effective.

IDEAS TO CONSIDER FOR THIS LESSON
THE 3 PARTS OF A LEARNING OBJECTIVE THAT WILL BE COVERED IN THIS SECTION:
Part 1: The Behavior
This is the portion of the learning objective that describes what the learner will be doing. This is the WHAT of the objective.
Part 2: The Condition
This is the portion of the learning objective that describes the conditions under which the learner will perform the behavior. This is the HOW of
the objective.
Part 3: The Criterion
This is the portion of the learning objective that states how well a learner must perform to show mastery. This is the HOW WELL of the objective.

