7th grade ELA Independent Reading
Title: Boy: Tales of
Childhood by Roald Dahl
2
As part of Unit 4, students are expected to independently read a memoir.
Independently means we will not read this together or have formal class discussions about this book.
Students will be graded on completion of this reading log and may have tests on chapters of the book or
a large test at the end of the book.
The chapters in this book are short and easily managed. There are 25 chapters so one chapter a day
is an easy guide to stay on track.
The reading log is meant to have students reflect on what is read and to build background as the book
is read. Most activities are "in your opinion" questions, but they must be fully explained and proper
grammar is required.
The book and reading log must be finished on or before May 20, 2021.
Please remember that this is in addition to our regular classroom assignments,
not instead of. Both things must be done.

Writing is breathing out.”

Cadbury chocolate spread is insanely delicious and sinful!! I warmed it up and drizzled

drawback is that it's quite pricey for the size jar. But I would purchse again for a special

For $40 a speaker worth getting. I find it very durable. Works great, treat it well should
last for years.
The speaker just arrived. Cudos to the Amazon driver for delivering my package to my
building and not the 1 across the street. They r 2 for 2 on last 2 deliveries. The speaker
is bigger than I thought. The Yellow looks more like a Gold color, which is what the pic
looked liked. I like the color. I think it looks sharp. Sound is not bad for a portable
speaker. Cranked Sabbath and ZZ Top both sounded almost as good as my JBL Flip
4's. It is fairly light, so strapping to a belt loop, backpack etc should be no problem. It
will not stand on it's own. Paired to my iPhone in a few seconds. I plan on using when I
take my everyday walk. I'll update on durability after a month or 2.

Look back at the advice (from your Unit 4 reading log) Zinsser gave for writing a
memoir.
List and explain the ways Roald Dahl used Zinsser's advice.
Six
Word
Memoir
A complex idea can be distilled into a very small
number of words. Try to write a 6 word memoir to
encapsulate a character from the book.
Example Structures to Help:
6 words in a complete thought
Hoping for Robin to someone’s Batman
I’m refusing to be left out
3 word phrase, maybe contradictory
Life is short, eat the cake
Just a kid, grow up already!
Three groups of 2 words - adjective then noun
Smart cookie, little sister, never wrong
Always guessing, always struggling, always caring
