post to reach the falls. There is public transport only till Narasipuram village. Hence it is
advisable to make transport on your own. It falls under the forest jurisdiction and hence

KODIVERI FALLS
A fall that is named after a wild one, being turned as an economy falls. Kodiveri is
about 16 km from Gobichettipalayam on the way to Sathyamangalam, which is about 14 km
away from Kodiveri. a popular tourist part of this region, in Erode district. An archon SH 15
(state highway) welcomes us to Kodiveri dam and in about 2km we reached the parking lot
and the weather was continued to be hot. Though it was about 5.pm the sun doesn’t show
mercy but it didn’t matter when got close to the water. We were unsure about the water flow
at the dam come falls, as our entire state is facing drought, we will be so glad to see enough
water at the dam leading to great flow in the waterfalls. A minimum amount is collected as a
fee to enter the dam area but I couldn’t get close to the water because of the unfinished
pathway that makes its way through the small park area. I was content with the views on the
waterfalls from either above or the pathway.
Kodiveri is a kind of check dam built across the Bhavani River and the downstream of the dam
forms the waterfalls. The name “Kodiveri” is originated from the Tamil word meaning Tiger,
which represents a large number of tigers living in the forest area around the Dam. Not to
forget the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve isn’t far away. The falls being not heavy, people
are allowed to bathe and swim in the pool of water as well as the falls, and reaching is also
not difficult.
THE MONKEY FALLS
The most notorious yet the most prominent falls in covai city. More the people here the
more it gets attraction. Monkey falls are beautiful natural waterfalls located on the PollachiValparai Rd, 65 km away from Coimbatore. The falls are surrounded by thick green forests and
rocky cliffs. Just 6 km away from the falls is the Azhiyar Dam. There is a unique trekking route
near the Monkey falls through the forest and guided treks can be organized on prior request but
only in favorable seasons. Since the falls are very close to the main road, it attracts many
travelers and has become a popular tourist spot. Both adults and kids can enjoy not just a scenic
view but also a pleasant bath under the waterfalls.
As the name suggests, there are quite a few monkeys in the surrounding region. So you must
be careful with your belongings. Although you can go right into the waterfalls, you must be a
little cautious since the rocks can be slippery at some places and you may get injured. The place
tends to get overcrowded during weekends. So weekdays are more preferable for a sightseeing
visit. You will find fewer crowds early during the day. Travelers need to buy a ticket to enter the
waterfalls. But tickets need to be taken before reaching the falls at the check post. Monkey falls
are pleasant natural waterfalls where travelers enjoy taking a bath. It’s very accessible to tourists
because it is so close to the main road. Just a short trek is required. There is a beautiful trekking
route through the forests that leads to the waterfalls. Guided treks can be organized if informed
in advance. The falls get quite crowded during weekends and holidays. But it is a must-visit
attraction on your way to Valparai.
THE NILGIRI BIOSPHERE PARK
The park has been set up on about 70 acres of over-used land that was transformed
into a forest over 23 years. The Coimbatore Zoological Park and Conservation Centre
(CZPCC), a non-profit society floated by PSG Education group managing trustee G
Rangaswamy, bought land close to Silent Valley, bordering Kerala. CZPCC began
conservation activity only in 1992.CZPCC researched to transform land that was once used
for brick kilns. Being in the foothills of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the attempt was to
recreate the same habitat of evergreen, moist deciduous, dry deciduous, rain shadow, and
thorn forests. Initially, the project faced some resistance from tribals who said the area was
part of their ancestral grazing grounds, and fencing it off would curtail their rights. Over the
years, though, seedlings of more than 520 species of local plants from the Western Ghats
were sown and more than 1.25 lakh saplings were raised. These have now grown into trees
three meters tall. Bio-diversity park to have an herb garden1.5-km long forest trail for visitors,
on which they can spot small animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, and other
invertebrates, as well as endemic plants. We have more than 120 species of birds that have

NBNP has successfully restored and helped the growth of many different vegetation types over 430 species of 25,000 plants of which 85 species are found only in NBR. Interestingly,
