Present this problem:
Due to economic crisis brought by pandemic, a successful
businesswoman named Mrs. Nina Mae Estologa wants to give 5 497.60 kg
of rice to the less fortunate parents in Gun-ob Elementary School. How many
kilograms of rice will each parent receive if she decides to give it to 10
parents? How about 100 parents? 1000 parents?
Ask the following questions:
1. What are the facts given in the problem?
2. What value did Mrs. Estologa shows in the word problem?
3. If you are Mrs. Estologa, will you share it many people? Why?
Analysis
a) What happens to the decimal point in the examples above? Towards what
direction does it move?
b) Is there a pattern in the movement of the decimal point?
c) Elicit the pattern from the pupils.
d) Discuss the rules/steps in dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 100.
