Bouncy Ball
Activity Title
I. Objectives:
To be able to:
A. investigate the difference between potential and kinetic energy;
B. draw conclusions from data about the relationship between kinetic energy and the
mass of an object in motion and its speed; and
C. participate actively in the laboratory activity.
II. Materials:
Tennis ball or any other ball of different masses
weighing scale/triple beam balance
meterstick/measuring tape
stopwatch
III. Procedure:
1. Measure the mass of the balls and record the height the ball will be dropped from.
Mass of ball 1 (grams): _______________
Height (meters): _____________
Mass of ball 2 (grams): _______________
2. Drop the first ball from the point measured. Collect data of the amount of time it
took the ball to drop and reach the ground for every trial. Repeat for the second
ball.

IV. Data Analysis:
1. What type of energy is involved when you dropped the ball from a certain height?
Why do you say so?
