Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson Show a picture of a carpenter. Present an image of a ladder and ask them the importance of a ladder. ELICIT B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson ENGAGE Ask the learners, “Who is in the picture? What does he do?” Show a picture of a toolbox of a carpenter. Ask the learners to enumerate things that must be present in the toolbox. Ask the learners, “How to climb a ladder? Can we skip one step at a time? What will happen if we skip a step in the ladder?” Using an image of a ladder, ask a volunteer to arrange the steps of scientific method. Tell the students, “Just like carpenters, scientist have different tools as well depending on their specialization.” D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #1 EXPLORE E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #2 F. Developing Mastery EXPLAIN G. Finding practical applications of concepts & skills in daily living H. Making generalizations & abstractions about the lesson Using PPT, discuss the different Laboratory Tools and their uses. Present simple problems and let the students give their answers. Presentation of outputs from yesterday’s activity. Also discuss the different safety rules in the use of the laboratory and some safety signs and their meaning. Introduce Scientific Investigation. Solicit ideas from the students. Present some laboratory tools that are present in the school and let the learners identify them. Using the ladder method, let the students identify the steps in a scientific investigation. Synthesis and discussion of the outputs. Ask the learners who wants to be a scientist someday. Then ask them what are the values that a scientist must have to be a good scientist. Group the class into five. Each group must identify a problem they encounter in their life with a solution using the steps in a scientific investigation. Why is Scientific Investigation important to Scientists? ELABORATE I. Evaluating Learning J. Additional activities for application or remediation EVALUATE EXTEND Answer the Quiz Number 1: Laboratory Tools and Safety Measures Quiz Number 2: Components of Scientific Investigation.
