Rotations Plan and Rollout Over the next few weeks we need to start rolling out centers. We have Map testing starting on the 12th and STEP testing starting on the 19th. These tests will help us to create our groups. Until then we need to practice the computer station and independent station. *I created this plan to be realistic. In years past we have been expected to have rotations up and running the minute STEP testing finishes. That is not realistic. There are so many aspects of rotations that need to be practiced before it can be executed. I am here for any questions you have or ideas you need! Week of 9/5 Monday No school Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Practice Practice Practice Practice independent independent computers work. computers work whole work whole Expectations work. group. group. and stamina Expectations Expectations Expectations and stamina and logging in and logging in You need to set clear expectations for each station and routines and procedures for the stations. Think about this and plan it. I found posters helpful, on the poster I would put what the station looks like, feels like, and sounds like. This way I could always refer to the posters. Think about the following things: o Computer station- How will they get their computers? What will they do if they have an issue? Can’t log in? voice level? What do I anticipate going wrong during this station? How can I be proactive? Ect o Independent work- How will they get the work? What if their pencil breaks? What will they do if they have a question? What do I anticipate going wrong during this station? How can I be proactive? Ect Week of 9/12 Monday- Friday Maps testing during rotations per your Maps schedule On days you are not MAPs testing as a whole group Whole group Skills Strand lesson (3rd and 4th grammar)- 30 minutes Whole group Computer 30 minutes Whole group Independent work 10-15 minutes I understand this does not add up to 90. You are still talking about the expectations before each whole group activity. Week of 9/19 Monday- Friday STEP testing. While your are STEP testing students can be on lexia and doing independent work Week of 9/26 If you are familiar with Map and STEP you will have already created groups. If you are not my goal is to meet with you Tuesday or Wednesday to create groups Monday No school Tuesday Model transitions Wednesday Model transitions Thursday Practice transition in groups from station to station Friday Practice transitionsspend 5 minutes in stations You need to think through your transitions. (I am more than happy to help with this part. We can set up a meeting during your specials time.) Will independent work and computers go to their own desks or will they have designated areas in the classroom? Have a clear traffic pattern if you have designated areas. I use to tape lines on my floor so they know what direction to walk. What will you name your groups? Have your timer on the board going for each station. Think about what could go wrong and how you will be proactive.
