Section 1: Science Fiction Narrative Excerpt- (Online submission via Google Classroom)
20 marks
Compose the beginning parts of an original science fiction narrative.
You must:
- Select a subgenre to form the basis of your story (apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic or dystopian)
- Introduce an orientation and complication
- Include conventions of the chosen science fiction genre
- Incorporate at least TWO types of sensory imagery (visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, gustatory)
- Pay attention to spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Write your narrative in the document posted on Google Classroom
Your narrative excerpt should be between 450-550 words (10% over or under is acceptable).
Section 2: Reflective Response- (Online submission via Google Classroom)
10 marks
Compose a reflective response explaining how you have created an engaging science fiction excerpt.
You must:
● Identify the science fiction conventions of your chosen subgenre (characters, setting, plot) seen
throughout your excerpt
● Identify at least TWO types of sensory imagery that you have included in your excerpt. Include quotes
from your story to support your answer.
● Explain how the examples of sensory imagery that you included have made your excerpt engaging
(effect)
● Follow the language and structure of a reflective response and pay attention spelling, grammar and
punctuation
Your reflective response should be between 300 - 350 words (10% over or under is acceptable).
You will be provided with two lessons of class time to work on the task.
You are to submit your task on the document posted on Google Classroom.
