Mission: To serve the community by: 1) offering affordable classes and workshops to support a healthy lifestyle; 2) Offering training courses backed by evidence based yoga techniques to enable transformation of the self and the society ; 3) Promoting yoga and its benefits through community engagement. We are affiliated with Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation VYASA, a premier Yoga University in Bengaluru, India. Based on 30 years of in-depth study in the field of yoga and spirituality, SVYASA has published many research papers on yoga and its therapeutic applications. Our goal is to combine the best of the West (modern scientific research) with the best of the East (yoga and spirituality). We conduct yoga classes, workshops, retreats, and programs aimed at creating awareness about yoga, its philosophy, and its relevance to the entire humanity. Our goal is to build a team of motivated volunteers to achieve our mission and vision. We invite learned yoga Gurus from India and also ask local experts to conduct discourses, camps and workshops. Holistic Yoga - Our Philosophy of Yoga Education “Education should be life building, man making, character building, assimilation of ideas” – says Swami Vivekananda. Yoga is a holistic way of achieving this goal. Yoga Bharati aims to provide a path to our students towards this goal through our courses. We conduct various courses including Diploma in Yoga Therapy (DYT). We give an overview of the entire spectrum of yoga fields throughout our course showing the students the holistic aspects of yoga at all five koshas (sheaths) of personality as 3 described by the yogic texts. We also educate our students on the four paths to achieve this goal of yoga: 1. Raja Yoga - the discipline through the practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation 2. Karma Yoga - the path of selfless action without expectation of the fruits thereof 3. Bhakti yoga - the path of love, devotion and surrender 4. Jnana Yoga - the path of self-study and contemplation Our courses attempt to guide our students in achieving their own health and harmony through sadhana (practice) and with this experience, our students take up the cause of guiding others in the community towards this positive health at all five layers of our personality. The Annamaya Kosha — physical sheath of our personality may experience health and harmony through asana and kriyas. The Pranamaya kosha — the vital sheath can be addressed through pranayama. The Manomaya Kosha — the emotional sheath gets peace through the culturing of positive emotions and through yama and niyamas, the basic ethics as suggested by Patanjali, the father of yoga. The Vijnanamaya Kosha – the intellect experiences health and harmony through Swadhyaya (self-study) and contemplation of situations and the nature of the world and its relation with life. Finally we touch Ananda – the happiness and the journey goes on to deepen our state of Anandamaya Kosha by removing our tendency towards worries, attachments, negative habits and strive towards the goal of sustained peace and bliss, the goal of yoga.
