Project Priority Matrix Project Priority Matrix Must Do Deviation Optimization Performance Cost Time Inferences • Must Do – Performance Construction of a statue is a part of art and for construction of a statue, performance is the most important because any difference in actual result vs planned result may lead to loss of revenue caused by unfulfilled expectations of the visitors. • Deviation – Cost Many times, while constructing an important structure, overall cost may be affected by many reason like, availability of raw material, lack of skilled labour, etc. so we can say deviation of cost is acceptable. • Optimization - Time Construction is a time-oriented job, whether it is a building or a statue. Cost, Financing and Time • The cost of the project is approximately ₹3000 Crore out of which Center allotted ₹500 Crores and State Government contributed the rest. • In first year of its operations, it earned a revenue of ₹82 Crores. • The project took 57 months to complete. 15 months for planning, 40 months for construction and 2 months for handing over by the consortium. Project Cost Project Duration Revenue Earned in 1st year of operation 3000 Crore 57 Months 82 Crore Gantt Chart • Tender Process – November 2014 • Planning – January 2015 – April 2016 • Designing – December 2015 – July 2016 • Construction – March 2015 – July 2018 • Operations – October 2018 – Work Breakdown System STATUE OF UNITY FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION Design Land Acquisition Piling Work Soil Testing Base Reinforcement Steel Girder Erection Phase 1 construction Installation of Head of the Statue Problems Faced • Local tribals belonging to the Tadvi caste were against land acquisition for the construction of tourism infrastructure nearby the statue. Although, they were offered cash, land compensation, and provided jobs. • People of nearby villages such as Kevadia, Kothi, Waghodia, Limbdi, Navagam, and Gora against the construction of the statue and claimed the refund of the land rights over 375 hectares (927 acres) of land obtained earlier for the construction of the dam as well as the constitution of new Garudeshwar subdistrict. • They also disagree with the development of the Kevadia Area Development Authority (KADA) and the construction of the Garudeshwar weir-cumcauseway project. At last, the government of Gujarat has to accept their demands. • Being situated on the banks of Narmada River, the water level in the Narmada River and the dam was severely affected. • Since it the biggest statue to be constructed, keeping up with the cost may be a difficult task. • Also, time management can be a problem for such projects that are delicate.
